Friday, May 3, 10:55 AM Procera's (PKT +31.5%) strong 2013 guidance (provided with its Q1 report) is giving a lift to deep packet inspection (DPI) hardware rival Allot (ALLT +4.1%) ahead of it May 7 Q1 report. Needham has upgraded Procera to Strong Buy, citing improved visibility and a belief shares are still oversold; even after today's giant gains, Procera remains down 22% YTD after getting clocked in Feb. due to a Q4 miss and soft guidance. In tandem with its report, Procera announced it has received major orders (I, II) for its PacketLogic DPI systems from a North American cable provider and a Tier-1 European carrier. Friday, April 26, 12:13 PM Allot (ALLT -3%) has fallen to within 3% of its 52-week low, possibly thanks to Alcatel-Lucent's Q1 report. While reporting healthy North American sales, Alcatel's European sales fell 10% Y/Y - EMEA made up 44% of Allot's revenue in Q4, and 61% in Q3. The deep packet inspection (DPI) hardware vendor delivers its Q1 report on May 7; Infonetics recently estimated the DPI market grew 28% in 2012, and that Allot passed private Sandvine to become its top vendor. Thursday, April 4, 9:04 AM Allot Communications (ALLT) secures $6.5M licensing expansion order to expand the functionality of previously-deployed Allot Service Gateways. Tuesday, April 2, 4:01 PM Juniper (JNPR -1.5%), Allot (ALLT -1.4%), Procera (PKT -1.9%), and BroadSoft (BSFT -0.1%) close lower after Pac Crest's Brent Bracelin cuts his estimates, citing European macro concerns. Though Pac Crest's research suggests the world's 15 biggest carriers (outside of China) could increase capex by 10% this year, it also indicates over half of the growth is expected to come from European carriers, and "there still appears to be a gap between talk and placing orders." Thursday, February 28, 11:53 AM A Q4 miss and light guidance lead Procera (PKT -29%) to go into freefall. Rival Allot (ALLT -4%) is off more moderately. Procera is forecasting 25%-30% 2013 revenue growth, below a 38% consensus, and sees most of this growth happening in 2H. Operating losses are expected in 1H - the Street has been expecting profits - before a 2H return to profitability. On the earnings call, management blamed "lumpiness" in tier-1 carrier orders, while insisting Procera saw no "material" competitive losses in Q4. Tuesday, February 12, 12:11 PM F5 (FFIV -0.6%) follows up on yesterday's acquisition of LineRate Systems by announcing a policy enforcement module for its high-end VIPRION application delivery controllers (ADCs). The module, aimed at service providers looking to analyze and set rules for network traffic, puts F5 into competition with Allot (ALLT) and Procera (PKT). Wednesday, February 6, 12:51 PM The average mobile user gobbled up 201MB of data/month in 2012, more than twice the 92MB/month consumed in 2011, according to this year's update to Cisco's (CSCO) Visual Networking Index. Cisco predicts mobile data traffic will post a 66% CAGR from 2012-2017, with 47% of 2017 traffic coming from Asia-Pac, 46% being offloaded onto Wi-Fi gear and femtocells, and 66% stemming from mobile video (YouTube dominates).
