All Nippon Airways (ALNPY.PK) is grounding its entire fleet of 17 Boeing (BA) 787 Dreamliners on the back of the recent emergency landing in western Japan, according to Japanese broadcaster NHK. Without quoting sources, the broadcaster tweeted: "Following the emergency landing, ANA will ground all its other 16 Dreamliners for emergency inspections."

Another Boeing (BA) 787, this one operated by All Nippon Airways (ALNPY.PK), made an emergency landing in Takamatsu in western Japan today after pilots received a battery-fault warning and smelled smoke. It's not immediately clear what caused the problems, but all 137 passengers and crew members were evacuated safely. Japan is the biggest market so far for the Dreamliner, with JAL and local rival All Nippon Airways flying 24 of the 50 Dreamliners delivered to date. BA shares -1.9% AH.

The best N. American airline for punctuality - defined as arriving withing 15 minutes of the scheduled time - is Alaska (ALK), with a rate of 87.79% in 2011. That's according to FlightStats.com's latest On-Time Performance Service awards. The next best are Delta (DAL), United (UAL), AirTran and US Airways (LCC). Globally, the most punctual carrier is All Nippon Airways, whose rate was 90.18%.

All Nippon Airways (ALNPY.PK) plans to start flying long routes between Tokyo and the U.S. or Europe next year as it takes delivery on new 787s from Boeing (BA). The next-generation of 787s boast a nautical range of 8,500 miles, opening up new competitive options for the firm.

Late by about three years, Boeing (BA) has rolled out the first 787 Dreamliner to be delivered to launch customer All Nippon Airways (ALNPY.PK). The new plane promises 20% more fuel efficiency and is expected to start flights next month. Boeing has taken 827 orders for the jet.
