- Tuesday, February 26, 1:04 PM Amgen (AMGN +0.1%) says the FDA has halted all pediatric clinical trials of Sensipar after a reported death of a 14-year-old patient taking part in a study of the drug used to lower calcium levels in the blood. AMGN however, says that there's no conclusion on Sensipar's role in the death as outlined by the FDA, and it was still working with the agency on the drug's development. Comment! [Healthcare]
- Monday, February 25, 7:28 AM Affymax (AFFY) prints at $3.41 premarket, -78.8%, following yesterday's report of the Omontys recall. AFFY has no other late-stage drugs in its pipeline. Piper expects shares to trade to cash value (~$2) "as investors take into account the lack of visibility." In play: AMGN, whose Epogen dominates the antianemia market (+2.4%), NKTR (which earns royalties on Omontys sales), and FMS, which pulled a trial two weeks ago (-1.3%). Comment! [Healthcare, On the Move]
- Monday, February 11, 3:02 PM A genetically modified smallpox vaccine has been shown to shrink tumors in liver cancer patients and extends survival more than a year, a recent study found. The therapy, from closely held Jennerex, is called JX-594, or Pexa-Vec, and is currently being tested in people with advanced hepatocellular carcinoma. Treatment options for this advanced type of cancer are limited, and San Francisco-based Jennerex is competing with drug behemoths such as Amgen (AMGN -1.5%) and Merck (MRK +0.4%) in the space, as well as others such as Oncolytics Biotech (ONCY -5%) and Dendreon (DNDN -3.3%). 6 Comments
- Monday, February 11, 11:38 AM Amgen (AMGN -1.3%) moves down as William Blair cuts the stock to Market Perform on valuation, noting a lack of upcoming catalysts following a sustained move to the upside. 2 Comments [Healthcare, On the Move]
- Thursday, February 7, 8:33 AM Amgen (AMGN +0.1%) ups its 2013 EPS guidance to $7.05-7.35 from a prior forecast of $6.85 to $7.15 and vs consensus of $7.01, with the increase due to federal tax settlements for prior years. At a business review, Amgen reiterates revenues and capex guidance. Targets $1B in sales in new and emerging markets by 2015 as it looks to expand into key markets, including Japan and China. (PR) Comment! [Healthcare, Earnings]
- Friday, January 25, 2:31 PM Shares of Amgen (AMGN +0.6%) get a small lift from an upgrade to Buy on valuation at Argus with a $96 price target. Argus cites AMGN's solid new product growth, extended pipeline opportunities, and healthy cash balance. 1 Comment [Healthcare]
- Wednesday, January 23, 4:51 PM More on Amgen (AMGN): Q4 missed on the bottom line but revenue beat on a solid 11% jump in total sales. Net earnings fell 16% Y/Y, hurt by acquisition-related expenses and higher operating costs. Revenue growth was due to strong sales of Xgeva, a drug designed to prevent bone injuries in cancer patients, which more than doubled from a year earlier. Prolia, a treatment for osteoporosis, also saw sales more than double Y/Y, with 40% sales growth over Q3. Shares +0.7% AH. Comment! [Healthcare, Earnings]
- Wednesday, January 23, 4:12 PM Amgen (AMGN): Q4 EPS of $1.40 misses by $0.04. Revenue of $4.42B (+11% Y/Y) beats by $50M. (PR) Comment! [Earnings, Healthcare, Breaking News]

- Tuesday, January 22, 12:54 PM Amgen (AMGN +1%) shrugs off an early dip to trade higher even after Credit Suisse cut the shares to Neutral and lowered its price target to $90. The firm says the 3 key elements to its upgrade in July have been realized and there are few catalysts remaining in the near term. Comment! [Healthcare, On the Move]
- Wednesday, January 16, 6:17 PM Amgen (AMGN) says late-stage testing of its Aranesp drug candidate failed to meet its primary endpoint of reducing deaths in heart-failure patients. The six-year trial worked with nearly 2,300 patients with symptomatic systolic heart failure and anemia by attempting to treat their anemia caused by kidney dialysis. Comment! [Healthcare]
- Monday, January 7, 7:31 PM The SEC is looking in to a report that Washington Council Ernst & Young violated auditor rules by letting its lobbying unit perform work for several major audit clients including Amgen (AMGN), CVS Caremark (CVS) and Verizon (VZ). U.S. independence rules bar auditors from serving in an "advocacy role" for audit clients, but it's unclear how far along the probe is, or whether it will result in any civil charges. Comment! [U.S. Economy, Healthcare, Consumer]
- Thursday, December 27, 2012, 4:44 PM A U.S. District Judge has accepted a guilty plea from Amgen (AMGN) and approved a $762M settlement to resolve criminal and civil liability arising from its illegal sale and misbranded promotion of Aranesp, which caused false claims to be submitted to Medicare, Medicaid and other government insurance programs. The settlement is the largest ever of its kind to involve a biotechnology firm. Comment! [Healthcare]
- Wednesday, December 19, 2012, 11:39 AM ImmunoGen (IMGN -0.5%) says that Amgen (AMGN -0.2%) has licensed the exclusive right to use the company's maytansinoid TAP technology to develop anticancer therapeutics to a third target, which is undisclosed. For each license, IMGN receives a $1M upfront payment and is entitled to receive milestone payments potentially totaling $34M plus royalties on the sales of any resulting products. AMGN is responsible for the development, manufacturing and marketing of any products resulting from the license. Comment! [Healthcare]
- Tuesday, December 18, 2012, 4:50 AM Amgen (AMGN) is due to plead guilty today in an investigation into its business practices, the U.S. attorney's office says, with the NYT reporting that the company will admit to mis-branding, which usually means promoting drugs for non-approved uses. Amgen will pay a fine close to the $780M it has set aside to cover the allegations, of which $150M will be for a criminal penalty. Comment! [Healthcare]

Thank you very much Mr. Smith for the great article on $CYTK. Given its pipeline and $AMGN partnership, still ridiculously undervalued! - View all 0 replies
