- Thursday, May 16, 1:49 PM Biotech names are weak today on the back of several ASCO data presentation releases: REGN -2.3%, ALXN -4.2%, VRTX -2.3%, CELG -4.5%, ARRY -2.2%, AMGN -1.4%. 1 Comment [Healthcare, On the Move]
- Monday, May 6, 1:36 PM Merck (MRK -1.3%) gets no love today from the FDA's approval of Liptruxet late Friday, as the stock is likely dragged down with the rest of the big pharma names on the back of a CNBC report that criticizes their earnings so far. The article points to the fact that pharmaceutical companies have seen a 4.7% contraction in earnings, and a 3.2% drop in revenue this quarter. Why? Morningstar's Damien Cover says there are two primary reasons: FX impact, especially from the yen, and intensified generic competition from patent losses. Comment! [Healthcare, On the Move]
- Wednesday, May 1, 7:51 AM Goldman adds Amgen (AMGN) to its coveted Conviction Buy list saying investors have already factored in Q4 and H2 2015 patent expirations for some of the company's "key biologic franchises." Furthermore, AMGN's pipeline and "own biosimilars will allow it to replace the potential revenue that could be lost to competition." Shares +2% premarket. Comment! [Healthcare, On the Move]
- Wednesday, April 24, 12:56 PM Amgen (AMGN -5.8%) slides after posting a mixed Q1 report late yesterday, beating on its EPS but coming up short on earnings. Net profit rose 21% Y/Y, due largely to a significantly lower tax rate, but the better number fails to mask disappointing sales, especially of its key arthritis drug Enbrel. The drug saw sales rise 11%, but fell short of analysts expectations. Piper Jafray cut the shares to Neutral on the report, saying the stock has limited upside until late stage clinical catalysts provide visibility into future growth. Comment! [Healthcare, Earnings, On the Move]
- Monday, February 25, 7:28 AM Affymax (AFFY) prints at $3.41 premarket, -78.8%, following yesterday's report of the Omontys recall. AFFY has no other late-stage drugs in its pipeline. Piper expects shares to trade to cash value (~$2) "as investors take into account the lack of visibility." In play: AMGN, whose Epogen dominates the antianemia market (+2.4%), NKTR (which earns royalties on Omontys sales), and FMS, which pulled a trial two weeks ago (-1.3%). Comment! [Healthcare, On the Move]
- Monday, February 11, 11:38 AM Amgen (AMGN -1.3%) moves down as William Blair cuts the stock to Market Perform on valuation, noting a lack of upcoming catalysts following a sustained move to the upside. 2 Comments [Healthcare, On the Move]
- Tuesday, January 22, 12:54 PM Amgen (AMGN +1%) shrugs off an early dip to trade higher even after Credit Suisse cut the shares to Neutral and lowered its price target to $90. The firm says the 3 key elements to its upgrade in July have been realized and there are few catalysts remaining in the near term. Comment! [Healthcare, On the Move]
- Wednesday, October 24, 2012, 11:15 AM Amgen (AMGN +1.3%) ticks up after its Q3 beat on bottom line estimates late yesterday. Net earnings more than doubled as newer products boosted revenue growth and its bottom line was aided by an absence of litigation-related charges. The company also guided FY12 revenue higher, now expecting to earn around $17.2B - $17.3B and its EPS to $6.50 - $6.60. The Street view was for $17.06 bln and and EPS number of $6.33. 1 Comment [Healthcare, Earnings, On the Move]
- Monday, October 22, 2012, 10:37 AM Amgen (AMGN +1.3%) ticks up this morning following an upgrade to Buy on valuation at Deutsche Bank ahead of its earnings report tomorrow. The firm says that despite the stock's strong move this year - from $67 in early June to its current $88 handle - it still trades at a discount to its peers and has a solid pipeline to spur continued growth. Deutsche also expects the dividend to continue to improve, and anticipates a dividend yield of 3% by 2014. Comment! [Healthcare, On the Move]
- Monday, August 13, 2012, 4:46 PM More on Array BioPharma (ARRY): FQ4 beats on a 9% Y/Y jump in total revenue. Net losses were pared significantly from the prior year period, as its top line was boosted by a jump in sales and its bottom line benefited from milestone payments from AMGN. Shares +6.6% AH. Comment! [Healthcare, Earnings, On the Move]
- Thursday, July 26, 2012, 4:29 PM More on Amgen (AMGN): Q2 beats across the board on a 13% Y/Y jump in total revenue. Product sales growth was driven by strong performance across the portfolio. Xgeva sales total: $179M. For 2012, the company guides higher, now seeing an EPS of $6.20 to $6.35 on revenue of $16.9B to $17.2B. Street estimates are for earnings of $6.15 per share on $16.37B in revenue. Shares +4.4% AH. Comment! [Healthcare, Earnings, On the Move]
- Thursday, July 26, 2012, 4:11 PM Amgen (AMGN): Q2 EPS of $1.61 beats by $0.07. Revenue of $4.48B (+13% Y/Y) beats by $400M. Shares +3.4% AH. (PR) Comment! [Earnings, Healthcare, On the Move]
- Tuesday, March 27, 2012, 3:12 PM Affymax (AFFY +10.9%) shares resume trading, popping more than 10% after the company confirms the FDA cleared the company's peginesatide anemia treatment for patients on dialysis for chronic kidney disease. The drug will be AFFY's first marketed product. Competitor Amgen (AMGN +0.5%) also trades higher. Comment! [Healthcare, On the Move]
- Thursday, March 15, 2012, 1:31 PM Affymax (AFFY +4%) makes new 52-week highs after Stifel upgrades shares to Buy. The firm expects Affymax's Peginesatide dialysis drug, which is set for a Q2 launch, to be "a disruptive force" in its target market, one that will put an end to the "monopoly pricing power" wielded by Amgen's (AMGN) Epogen. Comment! [Healthcare, On the Move, Quick Ideas]
- Thursday, February 9, 2012, 11:07 AM Amgen (AMGN -1.2%) continues its slide on the back of the FDA's rejection of Xgeva yesterday, spurred on today by a downgrade to Perform at Oppenheimer, citing a lack of near-term catalysts for the drug maker over the near term. 1 Comment [Healthcare, On the Move]
- Wednesday, February 8, 2012, 12:16 PM An FDA panel has voted 12-1 against expanded use of Amgen's (AMGN -1.2%) Xgeva for prostate cancer bone met prevention, according to a Bloomberg report. (pdf) Comment! [On the Move, Healthcare, Breaking News]

The Scientist: Omecamtiv is a wonder drug that can be used in the ICU like water. It raises CO/SV; lowers BP/HR. Too good to be true. -
briandiplacido: As a long-time ICU nurse who's seen tons of tachyarrythmia from inotropes, I agree (seems too good to be true). Interesting.
