Tuesday, April 2, 8:23 AM The FDA has approved Ampio Pharmaceuticals' (AMPE) request to start treating 15 patients as part of a two-stage trial of the company's Ampion anti-inflammatory treatment for osteoarthritis of the knee. The trial will evaluate the drug in adults with recent onset of the disease. Last year, the FDA granted Optina 505(b)(2) status. Drugs under this designated pathway can be approved on a single trial. Tuesday, August 28, 2012, 2:15 PM Biotech's seem to be in the cross-hairs with Seeking Alpha pundits lately, as another contributor goes on the hunt, this time taking aim at Ampio Pharmaceuticals (AMPE -3.4%). Short seller Adam Gefvert says that despite the hype surrounding its pipeline, it's not as impressive as it looks. Gefvert says much of the positive spin has come from stock pumpers skewing the importance of its pre-investigational NDA meetings. The drugs in question, Zertane and Ampion, have issues with generic competition as well as efficacy.
