Friday, May 17, 11:27 AM Galaxy S4 sales will top 10M next week (less than a month after launching), says Samsung (SSNLF.PK) co-CEO Shin Jong-kyun. The Galaxy S III took 50 days to crack 10M. Thursday, May 16, 3:55 PM Anadigics (ANAD +5.1%) is closing sharply higher after announcing 3 of its power amplifiers and a front-end IC (FEIC) for the next-gen 802.11ac Wi-Fi standard are used in versions of Samsung's Galaxy S4. The announcement comes 2 weeks after Anadigics stated its Wi-Fi FEIC sales grew over 4x Q/Q in Q1 to $4.8M, and made up 18% of revenue. Tuesday, April 30, 10:12 AM Anadigics (ANAD +10.2%) skies higher following its Q1 report. The results were nothing special, but expectations were low, and the Street seems encouraged by the momentum for Anadigics' nascent Wi-Fi front-end chip (FEIC) business. Wi-Fi sales rose to $4.8M in Q1 from $1.1M in Q4, and Anadigics mentioned on its earnings call its FEICs are found in several prominent Wi-Fi chipset reference designs. That, in turn, has led to major smartphone/tablet design wins, including for Samsung's Galaxy S4. Q1 gross margin was just 1%, down from Q4's 2.5%. Opex +9% Y/Y vs. rev. growth of -7%. Comment! RFMD appears well positioned to capitalize on expanding RF complexity with its 'systems-level' approach." writes Oppenheimer's Rick Schafer, explaining his upgrade of RF Micro (RFMD +8.2%). He's raising his estimates on account of the chipmaker's Galaxy S IV design wins and high-end tuner/RF switch opportunities. Shares are close to their 52-week high. Wednesday, March 13, 5:11 PM Anadigics (ANAD) -10.4% AH after announcing a public stock offering of undisclosed size. The RF component maker only says it will use the proceeds for "working capital and general corporate purposes." As of Dec. 28, Anadigics had $51.4M in cash/investments on its balance sheet, and no debt. However, the company has been steadily burning cash, and more losses are expected. Friday, February 22, 2:32 PM With the help of a chip stock rally, Skyworks (SWKS +3.1%) and Anadigics (ANAD +4.1%) are recouping some of the losses they saw on news of Qualcomm's (QCOM) RF front end. Lazard has upgraded RF Micro (RFMD +0.5%), arguing Qualcomm's solution is a "proof of concept" and that the company is unlikely to risk upsetting partners. Longbow thinks Qualcomm's use of bulk silicon and SAW filters will limit its solution to low-end devices. But Signals Research feels differently (.pdf). Thursday, February 21, 1:13 PM More on Raymond James' downgrade of Skyworks (SWKS -12.6%), TriQuint (TQNT -7.3%), and RF Micro (RFMD -14.6%): Analyst Tavis McCourt calls Qualcomm's (QCOM -1.1%) RF front end announcement a "bombshell," given the mobile chip giant's track record. However, he grants Qualcomm's entry into new markets is often met with "modest success" at first.
