  • Thursday 5:14 PM Starboard Value fires another salvo in its proxy fight against AOL's management and board by posting a 96-page presentation (.pdf) that highlights AOL's massive online media losses, and suggests its efforts to turn a profit on Patch are doomed. The inability of AOL's properties to drive search traffic on AOL.com is also criticized, as are AOL's compensation policies. Starboard's presentation comes a day after the WSJ took a close look at Patch's missteps.

  • Wednesday 9:45 AM Microsoft (MSFT) and WPP (WPPGY) agree a 3-year deal that will allow them to place and sell online ads for the brands and Internet publishers they work. The aim is to better match the supply and demand of ad inventory, with Microsoft partners AOL and Yahoo (YHOO) also set to benefit, especially in gaining access to premium ads.

However, he adds AOL, whose troubled Patch local news subsidiary just notified its 1,000-person staff of upcoming layoffs, remains committed to investing in its online media ops, in spite of the losses posted by the division.

  • Monday 7:02 PM According to AOL (AOL) CEO Tim Armstrong, the company plans to continue to partner with Yahoo (YHOO), but says a merger between the two is unlikely. It's a rumor that has been discussed multiple time over the years, but Armstrong wants to maintain the option to tout the abilities of both companies individually.
