Too Soon to Re-enter Oil Stocks? [view article]
There may be demand destruction in oil, but not in natural gas. In fact, we're going to see demand for natural gas increase in the coming years since it is more cost efficient than oil at current prices and also far more environmentally friendly. I'd load up now, but this is for the long term; don't expect 40% returns in a month or two. ReplyAmmon

I can't object to the notion of buying them while they're low, but call me a pantsy. This feels like catching a falling knife. (I have a new knife set, VERY sharp, maybe that's why I'm worried....) ReplyToo Soon to Re-enter Oil Stocks? [view article]
Not exactly sure why CHK is listed among the "oil" stocks. Sure, it's energy, but it's not exactly "small" either. But, in any case, I agee that it's a perfect time. I just added to my CHK holdings this last week - and I'm already in positive territory. Reply

Add bio fuels because of mandates to the blend and the margins change drastically because, by law, certain fuels used for transportion are required to use ethanol. There is a reduction for gas and not for ethanol. Most ethanol is transported by rail before blending and crop (ethanol) harvest yields are expected to be at record levels this year. The jump in oil price has not withstood its value and instead reduced its demand. ReplyToo Soon to Re-enter Oil Stocks? [view article]
Perfect time to buy; Low stock prices, end of summer driving season is near and winter heating season will begin soon. Historically, late August to early September are excellent entry points for oil stocks. ReplyRetail on a Tear - Fast Money Recap (8/11/08) [view article]
Today K+S AG a European specialty fertilizer supplier reported fantastic earnings. They more than quadrupled the year ago quarter. This may be the impetus to turn around the POT, MOS, and AGU trades. They moved to the upside yesterday when the dollar weakened. However, they are continuing to move up today even with a relatively strong dollar. Grain futures are up today. Oil futures are up slightly. Things are boding very well for POT et al. ReplyToo Soon to Re-enter Oil Stocks? [view article]

Board and Executive Compensation in S&P 500 [view article]
its all a self serving scam.the new word should be "suckerholder&quo... stockholder.the ceo's & bod's are just selfserving & nobody mentions the suckerholder in the boardroom. pay should only be by dividend fro shares bought by management & bod's & no options.that would straighten things out real quick.utopia? ReplyBoard and Executive Compensation in S&P 500 [view article]
Jackooo...you are exactly correct. The companies send out proxies, etc., as a "feel good" exercise, not something that will result in any change of directors, management, etc. The mutual funds are not doing their jobs when they simply go along to get along with extreme compensation packages being set up by compensation committees. Any time a compny is losing money badly, but gives top executives major pay raises, something is wrong inside the management of the companies. ReplyBoard and Executive Compensation in S&P 500 [view article]
Years ago when it became so obvious to me that boards of directors were nothing more than good old boys clubs, rubber stamps for corporate executives and every bit as greedy, I began to look in the proxy for the identities of the Compensation Committee. Every proxy I have voted since I have withheld my vote for those committee members and have encouraged others to do the same. May never have an affect but at least its something I can do to express my dissatisfaction... ReplyBoard and Executive Compensation in S&P 500 [view article]
I have both T and CMCSA. I notice their executive teams are paid the most. That's a shame from these two losers. The SEC can make up lots more rules & I can vote against the board but unless the mutual fund companies vote their shares against the boards, we individual share holders might as well forget proxy voting.
I cannot understand why the funds don't take the reigns? It is their clients that are losing money. It is true that most of the clients are dumb and lazy regarding financial savy but gezz. You would think the funds would do something, no?? Reply

giving the people on the board hefty 'compensation' really amounts to a bribe by the top execs to keep the big exec $ coming, no matter what. Warren Buffet does it right, when it comes to this. good article. thank you. ReplyImplementing Pickens' Plan for Public Energy Policy [view article]
P.S., P.S. If we can't buy gasoline at filling stations, what are we going to do with our gas powered lawn mowers, weed eaters, blowers, etc. Also, I have a 1966 Ford pick up truck in mint condition. Am I supposed to pay to have all of these converted to LPG? And, who is going to pay for it. I'd just as soon dump them in Pelosi's front yard! Reply
