Acme Packet (APKT) +7.3% AH after announcing a $200M stock buyback plan, good for repurchasing 18.6% of outstanding shares as of today's close. Acme, which had over $400M in cash and investments as of March 31, has been clobbered by a string of warnings and guidance cuts, the most recent of which arrived last week. (PR)

Acme Packet (APKT -4.9%) bleeds some more in the wake of Friday's Q2 warning, after Cowen adds its name to the list of firms downgrading the VoIP infrastructure vendor in response. Also, Jefferies, which downgraded Acme last month, is lowering its PT to $17, stating it's "inclined to remain on the sidelines" for now even though it's bullish on Acme long-term.

Wells Fargo downgrades Acme Packet (APKT -14.8%) to Market Perform on account of its Q2 warning, while lowering its valuation range to $14-$17. Near-term visibility is limited given difficult telecom capex and enterprise IT spending environments, the firm notes, and a string of warnings and downward estimate revisions is likely to pressure Acme's valuation.

It's early July, and the tech earnings warnings are starting to pour in. Acme Packet (APKT) -9.5% and making multi-year lows after stating it expects Q2 revenue of $66M-$68M and EPS of $0.12-$0.13, below Street estimates of $73.9M and $0.18. As with prior warnings, the VoIP infrastructure provider blames weak sales in the North American service provider market (most likely to AT&T and/or Verizon). (PR)

Pac Crest's Brent Bracelin cuts his targets for several networking stocks (JNPR, RVBD, FFIV, APKT, ARUN, and UBNT) on worries about forex issues and legnthening sales cycles (Cisco has already discussed the latter). Bracelin sees IT hardware stocks in general nearing trough valuations as news flow stays negative for the next month, through the start of earnings season. However, he's expecting a rebound in late summer or fall. (previous: I, II)

Acme Packet (APKT -7.1%) slumps to multi-year lows following a downgrade to Hold from Jefferies' James Kisner. After conducting checks, Kisner is worried the near-term unwillingness of North American carriers (i.e. AT&T and Verizon) to invest in their wireline networks, in favor of spending more on mobile, will make it hard for Acme to hit 2H estimates. Acme has already crashed due to delayed North American orders, and F5 and Finisar have recently been hit by concerns about soft telco capex.

Down initially after posting its Q1 report, Acme Packet (APKT) is now up 12.3% AH after stating on its earnings call (webcast) it still expects 10% revenue growth in 2012. That's only slightly above a consensus of 9.6%, but as the recent performance of its shares demonstrates, many have been assuming the worst on account of soft capex from U.S. service providers.
