Arena Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Q1 2008 Earnings Call Transcript [view article]
Looking good - especially at current share price near 52 week low. ReplyArena Pharmaceuticals Q4 2007 Earnings Call Transcript [view article]
So, if I am reading this transcript correctly--and it was mentioned a number of times--Arena appears to be betting the farm on the success of lorcaserin. If lorcaserin fails, ARNA is in jeopardy! ReplySafety Data on Arena's Weight Loss Drug Could Pave Way for Good Partnership [view article]
A. Reza Saadat, Thanks for your insight. I have a long position in Arena. May I ask...what do you think might be the effects on stockholders of a buyout? ReplyEditors

Is this a buy or a sell? ReplySafety Data on Arena's Weight Loss Drug Could Pave Way for Good Partnership [view article]
You can't lose at this price. The speculators and shorts alone will double it. All the market needs is a whisper and it flys! Just make sure you get out on the fly! ReplySafety Data on Arena's Weight Loss Drug Could Pave Way for Good Partnership [view article]
Obesity surgery is getting better. So many drugs in development for obesity. The possibility of valvulopathy, however remote, would deter anyone from taking this pill given the alternatives. This drug will be in regulatory limbo given concerns about its widespread use. ReplySafety Data on Arena's Weight Loss Drug Could Pave Way for Good Partnership [view article]
While lorcaserin's partnership will definitley drive the stock up, I think most cos will still wait for some more time (18 m data) and release of full data. However the value of the other pipeline products is not realised yet in the stock price currently and ARNA is a long term investment opportunity. I agree 100% arena is a steal at these prices andif you can wait for your returns I beleive they will more than pay for your patience. I am willing to wait ReplySafety Data on Arena's Weight Loss Drug Could Pave Way for Good Partnership [view article]
Lorcaserin is looking strong here. Other obesity drug candidates are having a hard time e.g. Merck's. Evolving standards for psychological side effects are raising the bar. Existing drug options are lacking. Increasing prevalence of obesity has been a stable long term trend.ARNA is also trading rather cheaply here, has a sizable cash reserve, and has other drugs in the pipeline. I'll stick with it. Reply

Perception of valvulopathy risk will always be there. The efficacy of the drug is not that impressive. Many alternatives to lorcaserin exist now, and many more will exist in the future. Tough time with third-party payers. Also, still in Phase III studies. Given all these things, there are probably more compelling biotech investments out there. If you are looking at AMAG, look at RMTI too. Like AMAG, they have a new iron therapy drug to treat anemia. Initially targeting end-stage renal disease w/ addressable market of 2M patients by 2010. They are doing another Phase II & if successful should start III in 2009. Only pure play iron play left that still cheap. Reply2007 Biotech Performance Review [view article]

Dan PritchGood article, thank you.
Maybe in the near future you may want to consider giving your prospective on 'NSTK'. I find and feel this is a story in a half.
It has all the ingredients of something to really write about.
Tremendous Hype, Chronic insider selling, Poor Sales, 10 year minus return on equity, Over played opportunities in the areas of Autism, Obesity, Diabetes, and RNAI. Lastly and truly, years away from potential FDA approvals with all their testing phases and hurdles they must jump perfectly to win approvals. One of the most overpriced Biotech's stocks in the market today in my opinion. Please consider Nstk as a future story of your personal perspective.
Thank you,

When good stocks with a good balance sheet and incomestqtement fall, then the quality of the company and the price of theat stock are in disconnect. The flow of money seems fickle!

When analyst's change their ratings it tends to move stocks. So ideally one would measure stock performance in some window starting just after whatever analyst condition is being measured. In contrast, you give YTD statistics for stocks that are all buys but they were not all buys at the start of the year. Reply
