    Reappraisal of Atari [view article]
    Bruce,

I agree with your analysis, but it's important to note that Gardner and Harrison joined Infogrames (IFG) and *not* Atari (ATAR). Also, all intellectual assets including the Atari name belong to IFG !

Since Infogrames (IFG) proposed to buy ATAR at 1.68 (and the deal could fall through and ATAR could sink and be delisted as a consequence !), do not buy ATAR but IFG in case you are bullish on the new CEO.

Details and my point of view here (Google Discussion Group):

    finance.google.com/gro...

Since Infogrames uses the Atari name on PR and game boxes there's some confusion and I guess some people bought the wrong stock (ie. ATAR and not IFG) as a consequence.

    Buyer beware !

"PS3 flopped hard, right there in black and white"

Given that HD DVD just flopped, and PS3 will be with us for some time, I expect their ultimate number of units sold will exceed XBox.

But, wii is the REAL winner.

Be careful Robert, there will be a huge difference between the number of games available for sale on the Wii and those that sell in sufficient quantity to make the game a success for the developer. Also, COOL is a thinly traded stock with a spread between bid and asked that is guaranteed to make the dealers a profit. Find another stock to trade, while you are still alive financially.

Wow! Clearly you know what you are talking about when it comes to dissecting companies. I am sincerely blown away at the level of detail you have bestowed upon us mere mortals. You make me feel like I have been throwing darts when deciding on what stocks I invest in. You have proven your point in that Nintendo is and will be the clear winner in the VIDEO GAME WARS of the new Millenium.
This article should be leaked to all the major news carrier's, as it is as good as any of the so called "expert's" could conjure up. You are the only person who has accuratley described what Ninntendo is doing, and how they should NOT be compared to SONY AND MICROSOFT, as Nintendo is not playing on the same field as the those two behomeths. I own both a Wii and a PS3 and they are completley different. The PS3 has awesome graphics, but it is complicated, big, loud and puts out enough heat to warm a clan of eskimos. The Wii is unassuming and a lot of fun. I can not play it for a month and go back and pick up whre I left off, the PS3 requires constant attention.
Nintendo is lean and mean and when they smell blood they go for the kill. They will not be happy until they own at least 50% of the market. Thank You so much for your hard work, and I will defintely sleep soundly tonight as all I will be hearing is the cash register ringing. I am long and all in Nintendo.
The last two days of trading in the US has been extremely bullish As it clearly shows that mutual funds are BACKING UP THE TRUCK on NINTENDO. For those of you who dont know NTDOY.PK usually trades along with Nintendo of Japan. However, in the last two days, NTDOY.PK has blazed its own path a full $1.60 ahead of Japan, on very high volume. BUY

Thank you for the nice comments on my most recent article. As you can imagine, it took months of reseach.

Additionally, I appreciate your calling Majesco, symbol COOL, to my attention. It would have made the list but just barely because in its most recent fiscal year it showed total revenue of only $66.7 million. In the previous year to showed total revenue of only $59.7 million, which was substantionally below its fiscal 2004 total revenue of &121 million.

The next time I update the article I will include COOL.

Excellent article, thanks for writing it.

One video game company you forgot to mention, however, is Majesco, which trades under the ticker COOL. After a failed attempt to break into the premium video game segment in 2005, and some restructuring, they have returned to their traditionally successful strategy of producing 'value oriented' (low development cost) games, and appear to be on the brink of a turnaround. They announced their intention to focus on games for the DS and Wii early on, and at least in that regard, they have a small advantage over other game companies who scoffed at the Wii and instead focused on the PS3. Another factor to consider is how easily 'value oriented' games lend themselves to the Wii and DS, as the very definition of Nintendo's intended strategy with the Wii and DS of 'creating a new consumer demographic' is almost synonymous with easy, pick up play games of the puzzle type, which Majesco has traditionally specialized in. COOL was initiated at a 'buy' with a $3 price target by Nollenberger Capital last week, and I expect them to quickly surpass that mark as Wii and DS sales continue to ramp up.

Once again, thanks for writing the article. People look at Nintendo as expensive, but what they fail to understand is Nintendo's growth rate and remaining growth potential. As you stated above, high quality games drive console sales drive game creation, and as third party game makers begin to pump out high quality third party titles, demand will probably increase. The market is nowhere near saturation.

One more thing - Nintendo is not sitting on their asses letting the DS and Wii print money, as is evident by their showing at E3. I also read an article a few days ago which stated Nintendo was working with the Seattle Mariners, to introduce a WiFi system for DS owners, by which they can use their DS to track scores and order food and drinks. As long as a company like Nintendo is innovating in ways such as this, sales will remain strong.

I too am long on Nintendo, as well as Majesco.

Stunted Marketing in Video Games: Nintendo the Only Ones Getting it Right [view article]
"They will never capture more than about 10% of consumers." Then how did the Halo series do so well? Way more than 10% of Xbox owners bought Halo and/or Halo 2, and there are plenty of other successful FPS shooters on consoles. But more diversity would be good, and I think Nintendo will do more damage than people think. Reply

Nintendo also recognizes that men are not the only potential customers. Their ad campaign for the new Nintendo DS Lite prominently features (gasp!) young (mid-20s) women as the user. A friend of mine in her mid-30s recently bought one because she wanted to play Brain Age, something the 'hard-core' gamers and other platforms scoff at.

Personally, I can hardly wait to get my hands on the new Wii.
