    • Venezuela's bolivar plummeted to 51.86 to the dollar on a new exchange that the government set up yesterday as part of an attempt to increase dollar supplies and tame the black market.
    • The price of the dollar on the government's official exchange is 6.3 bolivars and 10.8 bolivars on a secondary exchange, although it's 57-58 bolivars on the black market.
    • While critics charge that the new system, called Sicad 2, represents a severe devaluation, there are also those who are happy about the loosening of Venezuela's currency controls.

    • Avon Products (AVP) reports volume fell 10% during Q4 with weakness in Mexico, Russia, and China hard to overcome.
    • Gross margin was 61% for the period, which includes a $5M charge related to the devaluation of Venezuelan currency. Avon's price/mix did help margins during the period.
    • The company says its salesforce ended the quarter 5% lighter than a year ago.
    • AVP +2.4% premarket with expectations for the drop in volume already factored into share price and news from last night that the company is in advanced talks to settle a bribery probe.

    • Beauty products giant Avon (AVP -1.3%) expects to take a $100M-$125M charge related to the failed rollout of an SAP-based (SAP -0.6%) order management software system. The WSJ states the system was "so burdensome and disruptive to Avon representatives' daily routine that they left in meaningful numbers."
    • As Steve Rosenbush notes, Avon's decision, and the employee backlash that triggered it, shines a light on how corporate workers are increasingly demanding the business apps they use be as intuitive and user-friendly as the consumer apps they rely upon.
    • This trend, which ties into the "consumerization" of IT, poses a challenge to traditional enterprise software giants such as SAP, Oracle (ORCL), and IBM, and often works to the benefit of enterprise cloud software providers whose offerings emphasize ease-of-use and flexibility over the richest possible feature set.
