The salvation is when ethanol can be cheaply produced from things other than corn (i.e. the corn husk and other previously discarded material.) Boy, this one is one for the record books. Policy and laws driven by ADM and ag state politics. Stinks to heaven.Being optimistic, maybe our political leaders will take this lesson to heart and notice the impact of the next lobbyist driven policy initiative.
Also, being optimistic, maybe this is the price we pay, as a country, when the leadership at the top is woefully not close to being up to the job AND maybe, whoever comes next, John, Hillary, or Barack, will return us to a government based on reason, goodwill, competence and integrity.

Now, I tend to disagree with Gale's dire prediction in the immediate future. Yes, peak oil is coming, if not arrived. Yes, fermentation from corn is really not sustainable forever. Still, isn't it better that we are taking the first steps with the available technology we have and building industrial capacity to produce fuels by fermentation? Once cellulase enzyme and efficienct coneversion of cellulose to glucose and xylose is refined it will be possible to use the stalks and leaves of plants rather than the grain, and within the same type of fermentors we happen to be building industrially right now. To suggest that investors blindly follow lightning round picks is to suggest that viewers are mindless robots. Michael, you are right. Cramer frequently changes his opinions. But I went back and checked. Seeking Alpha does not have any references to Cramer discussing MPEL between January 25th and February 8th where he would have announced a change in his opinion. Replyscientist
