- Wednesday, May 22, 9:51 AM Leon Black's strategy of "selling everything not nailed down" while at the same time raising new investment funds seems to be working as Apollo Global (APO) is the best-performing (on a Y/Y basis) of the alternative-asset stocks. "Apollo has aggressively entered harvesting mode and you're seeing shareholders reap the benefits," says CS's Howard Chen, who has a Buy rating. Also in the top 5 were FIG, BX, and KKR, while CG and BAM scraped the bottom. In between are relative newcomers OAK and OZM. Comment! [Financials]

- Friday, April 19, 8:32 AM Brookfield Asset Management (BAM) receives regulatory approval to proceed with a plan to purchase more than 53M shares - about 10% of the public float. The maximum daily purchase allowed in Toronto will be about 195K shares, representing 25% of the average daily volume. The company bought more than 2M shares on the NYSE over the last year. (PR) Comment! [Financials]
- Monday, April 15, 3:00 PM Brookfield Asset Management (BAM) completes its spinoff of Brookfield Property Partners (BPY) - the new company set up to take ownership of nearly all of Brookfield's commercial property assets. BPY +2.7% on the session. (PR) Comment! [Financials]
- Wednesday, March 20, 10:16 AM Brookfield Asset Management (BAM) goes contrarian with its purchase of an 81% stake in Verde Realty, whose property assets reside in the drug-violence plagued border-town of Ciudad Juarez, Mexico. Verde has cost several sharp property players plenty of money, but Brookfield says a recovery is underway, pointing to stats of reduced violence and strengthening trade. Comment! [Financials]
- Wednesday, March 13, 11:16 AM Brookfield Infrastructure Partners (BIP -4.2%) continues to decline as damage from SA author Roddy Boyd's skeptical weekend piece on its parent, Brookfield Asset Management (BAM) spills over. 4 Comments [On the Move, Financials]

The SEC is reportedly investigating allegations that Brookfield Asset Management's (BAM) Brazilian unit paid bribes of 1.28M reais ($640,000) to two officials in Sao Paolo in order to accelerate approval to build a shopping mall. Brookfield is being sued by Brazilian authorities over the accusations, which it denies and which were initially made by the firm's former country CFO, who was fired in 2010.
Comment! [Financials] - Friday, February 15, 8:04 AM Brookfield Asset Management (BAM): Q4 FFO of $0.67. Revenue of $5.39B beats by $0.81B. (PR) Comment! [Earnings, Breaking News, Financials]

- Monday, February 11, 9:26 AM Brookfield Asset Management (BAM) ups its multifamily portfolio by about 33% with the purchase of 19 apartment complexes with a total of 4,892 units in the Charlotte and Raleigh-Durham sub-markets for $414M. (PR) Comment! [Financials]
- Wednesday, January 30, 7:16 AM General Growth Properties (GGP) buys back warrants held by Fairholme Funds and Blackstone for about $633M. The warrants were exercisable into approximately 52M shares at $9.37 each. It's safe to say the warrants - issued as the company exited bankruptcy - were home runs. Brookfield Asset Management (BAM) remains the only holder of remaining warrants - about 83M at an exercise price of $9.53. (PR) Comment! [Financials]
- Tuesday, January 29, 8:32 AM HomeServices of America - the JV bet on a housing recovery between Berkshire Hathaway (BRK.B) and Brookfield Asset Management (BAM) - stays busy, completing its 2nd acquisition of the year with the purchase of Missouri brokerage Prudential Gaslight Realtors. Comment! [U.S. Economy, M&A]
- Thursday, January 3, 12:11 PM Brookfield Asset Management's (BAM) purchase of Bill Ackman's General Growth (GGP -3.2%) warrants amounts to about a 20% premium to yesterday's closing GGP price, says Wells Fargo. In essence, Brookfield paid Ackman $78M to drop his demand for a sale of General Growth. For Brookfield investors, it's the cost of doing business, says Wells (which rates BAM a buy), but the "control premium upside" is worth it. Comment! [Financials]
