- Friday, April 26, 11:54 AM Basic Energy Services (BAS +4.6%) is upgraded to Buy from Accumulate at Global Hunter, which believes the bottom is in place for all of BAS's business lines, and its Q1 performance operationally was commendable despite depressed activity levels. CapitalOne also raises shares to Add from Neutral. Comment! [Energy, Quick Ideas, On the Move]
- Monday, April 15, 12:34 PM Basic Energy (BAS -5.7%) expects Q1 revenue growth of ~1% Q/Q, less than its previous guidance of 2%-3%, after reporting its well servicing rig count remained unchanged in March. But BAS sees Q2 revenue ~10% higher Q/Q, implying a result of ~$335M, pointing to recent improvements in the rig count, particularly in the Permian Basin market. Comment! [Energy, On the Move]
- Friday, March 15, 2:08 PM Basic Energy Services (BAS +6.9%) says its rig utilization rose to 71% in February vs. 67% in January and 76% a year ago, despite snow, wind and ice interruptions at its mid-continent and Permian Basin operations. BAS also expects customer spending to improve. SunTrust says the latest jump in natural gas prices also could help BAS. Comment! [Energy, On the Move]
- Thursday, December 27, 2012, 2:04 PM Estimates for Basic Energy Services' (BAS -5.7%) Q4, 2013 and 2014 are lowered at Jefferies to reflect operating weakness, including modestly more day rate pressure and concerns about at least H1 2013 activity in Permian and Mid-Con regions. The firm says it prefers peers with stronger free cash flow profiles. Comment! [Energy, On the Move]
- Thursday, December 13, 2012, 11:13 AM Basic Energy Services (BAS -7.3%) lowers Q4 revenue guidance, blaming the current pricing environment and activity declines into year-end that are more severe than expected. BAS now sees revenue 12%-14% lower Q/Q and weaker than the 5%-7% previously projected sequential decline. BAS reported revenues of $340M in Q3. Comment! [Energy, On the Move]
- Monday, October 15, 2012, 11:36 AM Basic Energy Services (BAS -3.6%) says it received a subpoena from the SEC and believes it is being investigated for potential violations of securities laws in connection with a July press release discussing June 2011 operating data. Comment! [Energy, On the Move]
- Tuesday, September 25, 2012, 12:46 PM Key Energy Services (KEG -12.2%) plunges on this morning's downward guidance on Q3 revenues based on declines in U.S. drilling and completion-related activity; prior expectations were for core oil market activity to be relatively flat in H2. Instead, drilling rig counts in these markets are down ~8% since the beginning of Q3, CEO Dick Alario says. Peers BAS -8% and SPN -6.7% also lower. Comment! [Energy, On the Move]
- Thursday, July 26, 2012, 2:39 PM Basic Energy (BAS +8.3%) isn't the only oil service stock (OIH +3.6%) benefiting from a Goldman Sachs upgrade, as Pioneer Drilling (PDC +14.3%) and Schlumberger (SLB +4%) are lifted to Buy from Neutral (I, II). The firm says consensus views are missing key trends in the sector, including stabilizing oil and gas prices plus strengthening international land trends. Comment! [Energy, Quick Ideas, On the Move]
- Thursday, July 26, 2012, 12:10 PM Goldman Sachs gives Basic Energy Services (BAS +7%) an unusual Buy-from-Sell boost and adds it to its list of Conviction Buys. "BAS offers the most leverage to our thesis that the tide is turning in NAM land, driven by the conclusion of the gas-to-oil equipment migration, a bottoming of the U.S. rig count, and subsequent stabilization of oil/gas prices," the firm writes. Comment! [Energy, Quick Ideas, On the Move]
- Monday, April 23, 2012, 2:42 PM Basic Energy Services (BAS +3.4%) is initiated at Market Perform rating with an $18 target price at Howard Weil, which says that while Q1 results prove BAS is not entirely insulated from "various degrees of franchise contortion in addressing established and emerging oil and liquids plays," it finds BAS "with refreshingly less to do in this regard save for sticking to its roots." Comment! [Energy, On the Move]
- Friday, August 19, 2011, 5:17 PM Basic Energy Services (BAS) takes a hit today, closing -10% on reports of insider selling. (I, II). Comment! [On the Move]
