- Monday, June 3, 5:47 AM Bayer's (BAYZF.PK) and Onyx Pharmaceuticals' Nexavar drug helped prevent a rare type of thyroid cancer from getting worse for 10.8 months in patients a Phase III study, well above the 5.8 months in subjects who took a placebo. However, Nexavar didn't improve overall survival rates. Authorized sales to thyroid cancer sufferers could add $200-300M to sales of Nexavar, which is already approved to treat liver and kidney cancer. (PR) The findings were presented at the annual meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology. Comment! [Healthcare]
- Wednesday, May 29, 8:20 AM Germany's Bayer (BAYZF.PK) has received antitrust clearance from the FTC for its $1.1B acquisition of U.S. contraceptive devices maker Conceptus. The deal is now contingent on Conceptus' stockholders tendering a majority of the outstanding shares in the firm. Comment! [Healthcare, M&A]
- Monday, April 29, 5:32 AM Bayer AG (BAYZF.PK) says it will acquire Conceptus (CPTS) for $1.1B in a deal that will pay CPTS shareholders $31 per share in cash, a near 20% premium to Friday's close. With the deal, Bayer gets CPTS' surgery free, permanent birth control method, expanding its portfolio of contraceptive offerings. Comment! [M&A, Healthcare]
- Tuesday, April 16, 4:44 PM Actavis (ACT) rallies +1% into the close after an appeals court rules in the company's favor regarding a patent dispute with Bayer (BAYZF.PK). Actavis yanked its generic version of the contraceptive Yaz from pharmacies last year after Bayer successfully challenged it on patent infringement grounds in a Nevada court. Comment! [Healthcare]

- Tuesday, November 20, 2012, 8:02 AM Bayer (BAYZF.PK) decides to avoid getting enmeshed in a bidding war for Schiff Nutrition (SHF -5.3%), saying it won't increase its $1.2B proposal for the U.S. company after Reckitt Benckiser (RBGPF.PK) offered $1.4B. "Entering a competitive bidding process in response to the November 18 Proposal (Reckitt's bid) would result in a price outside Bayer's set financial criteria," the German drug maker says. Comment! [Healthcare, On the Move, M&A]
- Friday, November 16, 2012, 5:14 AM Schiff Nutrition (SHF) shares surged 30% to $44.10 in post-market trading after it became the subject of a bidding war. Reckitt Benckiser (RBGPF.PK) has offered $1.4B, or $42/share, to acquire Schiff, topping a $1.2B proposal from Bayer (BAYZF.PK). Buying Schiff would enable Reckitt to enter the $30B market for vitamins and supplements, a temptation that analysts think could prompt J&J (JNJ) into making a bid as well. Comment! [Financials, Consumer]

The deal strengthens Bayer's presence in the U.S., the biggest market in the world for over-the-counter and nutritional products. Separately, Bayer's Q3 EBITDA edges up to €1.85B as sales rise 12% to €9.67B. (PR: merger, earnings) Comment! [Healthcare, M&A]

The FDA has not requested additional data for further studies for Lemtrada, which could be launched in 2013 if the FDA approves it. (PR) Comment! [Healthcare]
