ZTE shares plunge 15.1% in Hong Kong after China's second-largest telecom-equipment maker warns that it will make a Q3 loss of up to 2B yuan ($319.1M). ZTE blames a delay in some overseas deals and a large number of low-margin contracts in Europe, Asia and the domestic market. Cable infrastructure gear vendor Arris (ARRS) has agreed to acquire smaller peer BigBand Networks (BBND) for $2.24/share in cash, a 76% premium to BigBand's Monday close. BigBand was a pioneer in the development of switched digital video technology, which increases cable network capacity, but has fallen on hard times as competitors have caught up.

Cable infrastructure equipment provider BigBand Networks (BBND) pops 12.1% after announcing AT&T (T) will be deploying BigBand's local TV ad solution for its U-verse service. Prior to today's move, BigBand, which has been bleeding cash for many quarters, had a market cap very close to its net cash position of $131M.

Big Band's (BBND) 23% surge, on an analyst upgrade, may be overdone: "BBND's real business advantage is in helping move video around broadband networks. The business is no longer growing at the rate it was two years ago. Large content companies are having trouble making money in the online video content business."
