Brown-Forman (BF.A +1.2% BF.B +2.3%) approves a 3-for-2 stock split that will be paid in the form of a dividend. As part of the split, the Jack Daniels maker will ask investors to authorize an increase in the number of shares at its annual meeting in late July.

Americans shifted their taste away from beer to pricier liquors, according to a report from an industry-watching group that cites a bump in market share for pricier spirits offerings. Drivers for the gain in market share include an increase in advertising spending by distillers and a new product line that flavors-up old classics. Industry stalwarts BEAM, STZ, and BF.A also have their eye on growing exports as their drinks gain popularity abroad.

Brown-Forman (BF.A -0.4%) says FQ2 profit rose 2% due to sales gains for its flagship Jack Daniel's whiskey. Revenue rose 12%, but ad spending jumped 14% Y/Y as the liquor maker spent more to market its new flavored adult beverages. A stronger dollar cools earlier profit expectations; BF now predicts full-year EPS at $3.45-$3.70, vs. previous guidance of $3.45-$3.85.

Diageo (DEO), the world's top spirits maker, is apparently considering a $2B bid for tequila brand Jose Cuervo. Other names being tossed around as possible targets or buyers in the consolidating industry: Fortune Brands (FO), AB InBev (BUD), Brown-Forman (BF.A).

Brown-Forman (BF.B, BF.A) confirms its plans to explore strategic alternatives for its wine assets, including a possible sale. WSJ had reported earlier in the week that the unit was on the auction block.
