Friday, March 22, 2:28 PM Biogen Idec (BIIB +1.2%) is another beneficiary of a positive opinion from the EU's Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use, recommending that the company's Techfidera be granted marketing authorization as a first-line oral treatment for adults with relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis. Wednesday, March 20, 10:59 AM Wells Fargo's Brian Abrahams is defending XenoPort (XNPT -2.6%) this morning on the back of competitor Biogen's (BIIB +1.5%) positive trial results for its MS treatment Plegridy. He says that, despite the competition, BIIB's multiple sclerosis pill patents should be a positive for XNPT. Most notably, additional patent applications could provide patent protection until 2032 for BIIB's BG-12, which should benefit XNPT's '829 drug, an earlier stage derivative of BG-12, and give it added protection from generic competition. Wednesday, March 20, 8:09 AM Biogen's (BIIB) injectable drug peginterferon beta-1a cut the annual relapse rate of multiple sclerosis patients by 36% when dosed once a fortnight in a Phase III trial. Monday, March 18, 8:10 AM Biogen's (BIIB) and Elan's (ELN) Tysabri treatment has demonstrated its "efficacy compared to other multiple sclerosis (MS) treatments" in several studies. Friday, February 8, 2:13 PM Biogen Idec (BIIB +2.6%) moves up after saying it and Swedish Orphan Biovitrum released data that confirms the ability of its investigational recombinant factors VIII Fc fusion protein and IX Fc fusion protein to provide long-lasting protection from bleeding with fewer injections than are required with the current standard of care for people with hemophilia. Separately, Citigroup throws in the towel and ups the shares to Buy, saying the fundamentals are just too strong to look for any pullback opportunity to pick the shares up cheaper. Comment!
