What Are Your Biogen Idec Options? [view article]
Who brought the jerk? ReplyWhat Are Your Biogen Idec Options? [view article]
JacobMy Biogen option is to shatter Big Oil stocks to pieces. i am busy writing comments everywhere telling people to dump Big Oil stocks as oil prices is heading nowhere but down.... Thousands are trading in SUVs and PickUps for Cobalts and Focuses everyday. The days of switching between gas guzzlers and fuel sippers according to Jim' Oil Stop prices are practically over. We are simply tired of being wagged by Big Oil . We are out to bury Big Oil in wells where they belong. Wall Street think they can simply lop Biogen off by 25% in a hearbeat just because we are buying less gasoline. It is a zero sum game. the connection between Big Oil and Biogen is clear yet everyone is so blind. I am fed up with mischief making or back stabbings at Wall Street. You hear me? Reply
Infamous Anniversary - Cramer's Stop Trading! (8/1/08) [view article]
Will Cramer fall on his sword? One year from now, will he admit he got it wrong? That he knew nothing, that he had no idea!SBUX just sells over-priced coffee. Over-priced was a fad that has faded as the 'new rich' those who had money to through around like water to live a pretend lifestyle now find their gravy train of home-equity and credit card cash is at an end. To this end, SBUX has tried to reinvent itself through selling food??? Why compete with the likes of McDonalds? So what did McDonalds do, they began to sell 'up-scale' coffee as a simple menu move for big profits and a crush of SBUX's core business. If McDonalds find it necessary, they will put in WiFi areas with an intimate atmosphere - and then SBUX has nothing unique to offer. SBUX is having to close stores - stores that were put in 'trendy' spots with high rents as everyone trampled each other to sell premium items at 'fluff' prices. $4 scoops of ice-cream come to mind as well.
Now for CROX, sure the shoes were 'fad' but the redeeming qualities of Croslite is being supporting, comfortable and most importantly odor-proof are unique and hard to duplicate. Court victories against the rip-offs are falling to CROX. As a relatively small company, although some 800MM in sales this year, it has broadened it product line in shoes and apparel and is moving form its core products. This process takes time, but not much. As a brand it is not a fad. As it garners shelf-space and a growing presence through company owned stores to showcase its entire product line, it will return as a cash machine and will likely be taken out instead of being allowed to be a competitive force. As for scare talk about bankruptcy, they are far from it. This talk enables the bears to cover their shorts and even go long. What the short position fall over the next couple of months as the shorts find something else with downside potential. The smart money will tell what it going to happen.
In the near term, market rallies that make the public assume that all is well, will raise all boats, including the likes of CROX and SBUX. So let's see the percentage moves for each using Friday's close as the benchmark - SBUX 14.42 and CROX 4.44. Timeframe - by the election.
I do not have a position in either stock. My position was long CROX at around 7 and sold at 9.88 the day it ran to 10.55 as the shorts got gunned before the shoe was dropped the next day. Pun intended. I believe that CROX presents a better chance of a 50% trade in the next couple of months than does SBUX. Reply

Does Icahn's Involvement Affect Share Price in the Long Run? [view article]
It was with great hope seeing the end of CEO "Zander the Commander" plus the addition of Carl Icahn to the board that the changes would add some life to the Big "M" stock price. So far it looks like the New CEO and Icahn are just a couple more gravy train passengers to be added to the cargo list.It would be a revelation to see some one added to the company with a bit of genius equal to what the founder of the company once had. The key to biotechs like Biogen is to develope and have a pipeline for new blockbuster drugs. When Biogen had to take Tysabri off the market after three deaths, management sensitively steered the right course and convinced regulators to let it be reintroduced with strict warnings and monitoring. With the support of users who had been benefiting from "T" and suffered because of its withdrawal, Biogen has regained most of the drop in stock price in recent days. Icahn has been a blessing in drawing attention to the stock, and a curse by interfering with mngmt by pushing them to put the company up for sale much as he unsuccessfully did with Yahoo. Biotech companies exist and thrive because of their trade secrets, patents, and research genius ideas. The company obliged Icahn in inviting bids, but no pharmaceutical or biotech stepped up to pay the premium for a buyout.
Now the higher earnings and prospects just announced are rewarded by a nice bump up.
If Icahn's involved in BIIB had a big part in the stock move since he first announced, I'll say, "Thanks, Carl" even though I'm not on a first name basis with him. Reply

i have seen interviews with some of these activists.when asked why they do it since they have more money than they need they all say its the game to win.of course the byproduct of winning is more money to play more games. its all vegas, slower & nobody brings you a drink. If Roche versus DNA doesn't progress, expect professional dweeb carl Icahn to come in and stamp his feet, and pound his fists, and hold his breath until some under-worked reporter converts his simple-minded proposals into a quick headline. Reply
