Is the Commodities Bubble Popping?- Fast Money Recap (4/29/08) [view article]
I agree with you zoom that this sucks, but nothing has fundamentally changed to break the party in commodities.

We now have cheaper money (thanks Ben for unnecessarily lowering the interest rate), a really shitty regulatory system (the CFTC is an absolute joke). And to boot President "there's no oil speculation, it's all based on supply and demand. Price rises have nothing to do with the 400 billion that has been pumped into these markets" Bush and Hank "I want a strong dollar, but not really" Paulson are still in power. Even OPEC sees that it's a sham and is fundamentally justified in their approach.

This game is welfare for Wall Street and we all get to pay for it. The worst part: There's nothing we can do until Bush is out of office and the CFTC starts doing it's job again. Sorry man

$150-$200 before $90? what are you smoking? You need to understand the trucking industry before you make dumb statments like that. I had a thriving business selling custom parts to the trucking industry, when diesel started climbing extra $ to spend went away immediately, with a gallon of diesel is $4.30, less and less drivers are willing to bust their ass to make less and less money so they just park their truck and look for other work. While speculating on oil should not be allowed as it completely screws our economy, 90% of everything is moved by truckers, those same truckers are organinzing a freeze out, which means NO trucks will be onthe highways for 7 days, no cargo, no frieght, no food, no fuel, NOTHING.... what effect do you think that will have on the economy? I'm guessing the government will have no choice but to get involved and install regulations that demand speculators put up 50-70% of the money to cover the games they are playing with stocks, once that happens the amount of risk goews up and the amount of games being played goes down. It's not popping yet...Helicopter Ben keeps cutting rates.

We're going to see $150-200 before 90 again. Nothing systemic has changed in this market. But it will crash.

I'd suggest no only hold PFE, but buy more. In fact, why not have one share transferred into your name, that way you can participate in the purchase plan, paying no commissions! Reply

Pfizer is a drug company, and they provide research that benefits
everyone, along with drugs that help people. Sometimes in our rush
to make a profit, we lose sight of the good a company does. This
is the nature of the sector, creating drugs takes time and money.
They have a ton of cash, and will continue to make money for many
years to come. I'm holding my shares for the long run.

Anyone who not only watches this slimiest group of touts/thieves/liars, but actually follows their recommendations, deserves to lose money.
CNBC reached down into a toilet and came up with this group.
As if Cramer wasn't bad enough, this den of thieves makes Cramer look sainted.

do a bunch of small deals would be my option for Pfe! Pharma is changing away from mega deals like the Lipitor Deal they did several years ago. Reason being is Competition in a MC World. In a MC world formulary control becomes the driver. No one pays for a med w/ o proven benefit "Outcomes" in our Brave New World! So you mine for selected Targeted Therapies that you can adroitly market. I see this as the new Pharma paradigm. Watch Pfe buy the Mid Sized biotech who is completing Phase-3 and is before FDA pending approval on 1 or 2 candidates w/ 1 already on the market in an area that is compatible w/ their Marketing/Research Reply
  • Baxter, Biogen Idec & Elan Subjects of Broken Embargoes [view article]
Journals and conferences embargo papers in an effort to maximize their ability to win publicity for their organizations when the papers are released in the journals and at the meetings. They force researchers to agree to their embargoes as part of their terms when they accept the papers for publication or presentation.

Since the researchers' careers depend on their publishing records in peer review journals, they play the game. Also, researchers' grants often require that they publish in peer reviewed journals and that they make presentations at major conferences.

Thus, the intellectual integrity of medical researchers is compromised both by the organizations that fund their research and by the organizations that publish their findings. This is one reason there is so little trust in medical research, medical journals and the information that comes out of major medical conferences. It is so compromised by money and ambition, and it reflects badly on academia and the medial research community.

That analysts broke the embargoes is only natural. They had access to inside information that they couldn't publish, and that causes disclosure problems for the analysts and the drug companies involved with the SEC and shareholders.

Researchers should refuse to embargo their findings. Academia should find other ways of measuring and rewarding scholarly work, and securities analysts should continue to break embargoes. Medical journals and conferences have had their days and should go away.
