Shares of Badger Meter (BMI -6.9%) slip after missing the mark on its Q4 report late yesterday, due largely to acquisition costs, and despite a 22% jump in total revenue. Net earnings soared to $5.5M for the quarter, a 362% increase from Q411, largely due to the acquisition of Racine Federated in January 2012, along with higher sales of residential water meters.

Flow-measurement manufacturer Badger Meter (BMI +15%) jumps after reporting Q3 results that beat estimates across the board. Profit was boosted by a 77% jump in revenue, as all three of its product categories contributed to improvement. Bottom line margins also benefited from lower copper prices.

Shares of Badge Meter (BMI -11.8%) sink after the company misses EPS and revenue estimates with its Q3 report. The firm reports revenue of $70M (-8% Y/Y) vs. the consensus estimate of analysts of $76.7M - negatively impacted by a "continued slowdown in spending and new projects by a number of customers in the municipal water market."

ConservativeOutperformer: I'm not sure. I did an assessment of the key players when I looked at the sector and found BMI to have the best long term prospects......
