Biotech Outlook: M&A Will Continue [view article]
Is there any logical reason for Pluristem Therapeutics Inc (PSTI) to be included in any M&A thought process. Currently trading at it's 52 week low. My opinon is that as it holds license on several "cutting edge" stem cell derivitives with great promise, it should be on somebody's radar screen. Presently Big Pharma companies suffer from lack of vision. They became drug marketing companies.Dealing with biotech companies, Big Pharma can either acquire biotech or have a partnership agreement.
A good partnership has many advantages:
- it removes a lot of risk for Big Pharma, i.e., they do not have to pay a lot for buying a failure
- they can buy a partner at a later date
The only problem with a partnership is when a biotech has good management and is more than one drug company. In this case, an acquisition at a later date may be impossible.
The best acquisition candidates are biotech companies with a very good pipeline and bad management. The best names coming to my mind are AMLN and IMCL.
Finally, with falling US$ , I would expect a strong acquisition drive by foreign companies. They can afford the best [such as DNA by Roche, MLNM by Toshiba, etc.,]

Biotech Buying Binge About to Begin? [view article]
There are a couple of things happening that signal activity in this market. Major pharma needs a pipeline; emerging pharma has pipeline opportunities. Emerging pharma raised lots of cash at the end of the dot.com bubble--that cash is now showing up as pipeline. However, that cash is also running out. Emerging companies are, relatively speaking, inexpensive. It's the perfect time for big pharma to go on an M&A spree. ReplyBiotech Buying Binge About to Begin? [view article]

DNDN has all the risk, but all the reward too. I think the FDA says yes this time. At least for the very latest stage of the prostate menace. ReplyGold's Just Getting Started - Barron's Interview [view article]
itsreal you obviously have no clue as to what gold is used for 60% of the demand for gold is for jewlery wether you see that as being a real use or not is up to you but it is still one and also its used in many semiconducters so in the technology world which is growing its very essential there are others but im going to bed. Is this a buy or a sell? ReplyGold's Just Getting Started - Barron's Interview [view article]
If my observation is correct, the so-called dollar strength comes from the weakness of Yen and Swiss Franc. A picture is worth a thousand words:tinyurl.com/25p7j5
On the other hand, the stock bubble is being fueled by yen carry trades:

There are also uses of gold for those of you saying that all the gold is still available as a traded commodity. For one, gold goes into computers, paints, and other products where the gold is not readily recoverable. On the whole, however, the use of silver is much more abundant than gold. @earl ... I was talking about something else, but I think you're referring to a $2 premium, which makes me curious now. Can you post a link? The lowest premium I've seen on Kruggerand is about $11. And that one requires wire, else the check takes 3 weeks.@spin ... If I was you, I would keep the .38 separate from the stash, somewhere more accessible. ;-) Reply

I have a little pile of gold stashed in a false floor in my bedroom - along with a 38 caliber revolver. Reply
