- Wednesday, May 22, 5:17 AM Citi upgrades Bristol-Myers Squibb (BMY) to Buy from Neutral and raises its price target to $55 from $33 saying the company's "very broad checkpoint agent [is] positioned to capture a very significant share of an emergent $24 billion checkpoint agent market." Citi also hikes its FY17 EPS forecast by 31%. Comment! [Healthcare]
- Wednesday, May 15, 11:29 AM Bristol-Myers (BMY +4.2%) trades higher today as abstracts for the American Society of Clinical Oncology's annual meeting are due to be released today, ahead of the meeting which begins on May 31st. The Abstract is on IO combination therapy with Nivolumab & Yervoy in melanoma treatment. Comment! [Healthcare, On the Move]
- Thursday, May 9, 2:12 PM Boston Scientific (BSX +5%) hits a new 52-week high after reporting follow-up data from its Protect AF clinical trial demonstrating that its Watchman Left Atrial Appendage Closure device was statistically superior to Bristol-Myers (BMY) Warfarin in preventing cardiovascular death, strokes and systemic embolization. 1 Comment [Healthcare, On the Move]
- Monday, May 6, 1:36 PM Merck (MRK -1.3%) gets no love today from the FDA's approval of Liptruxet late Friday, as the stock is likely dragged down with the rest of the big pharma names on the back of a CNBC report that criticizes their earnings so far. The article points to the fact that pharmaceutical companies have seen a 4.7% contraction in earnings, and a 3.2% drop in revenue this quarter. Why? Morningstar's Damien Cover says there are two primary reasons: FX impact, especially from the yen, and intensified generic competition from patent losses. Comment! [Healthcare, On the Move]
- Thursday, May 2, 9:59 AM Gilead Sciences (GILD +5.3%) pops after saying it plans to initiate a Phase III trial to evaluate a combination of sofosbuvir and ledipasvir in patients with hepatitis C. Phase II results suggest "once-daily oral therapy with [the combo] may have the potential to cure most genotype 1 HCV infected patients with a remarkably short treatment duration," says Dr. Eric Lawitz, the study's principal investigator. Some have suggested a combination of sofosbuvir and BMY's daclatasvir is preferable, as both are active in genotype 3 HCV whereas ledipasvir may only be effective against genotype 1. (Related: I, II, III) 5 Comments [Healthcare, On the Move]
- Saturday, April 27, 10:53 PM Combining Gilead's (GILD) sofosbuvir and Bristol-Myers Squibb's (BMY) daclatasvir cures 100% of hepatitis C patients in 12 weeks (including those who failed treatment with Vertex's (VRTX) Incivek and Merck's (MRK) Victrelis) and looks to be a better treatment option for those with genotype 3 than a combo of sofosbuvir and another GILD drug ledipasvir. The problem: "GILD very clearly wants to develop in-house," one clinician tells Bloomberg. (See also: ABBV's HCV treatment successful; VRTX teams with BMY on HCV trial) 5 Comments [Healthcare]
- Thursday, April 25, 8:35 AM More on Bristol-Myers (BMY -1.6%) Q1: net profit -45% to $609M, with earnings hurt by patent expirations for Plavix and Avapro/Avalide. Excluding those drugs, net sales +10%. Sales breakdown: Orencia (rheumatoid arthritis) +26%, Yervoy (melanoma) +49%, Sprycel (leukemia) +24%, Onglyza (Type 2 diabetes) +25% and Baraclude (hepatitis B) +13%. Confirms 2013 adjusted EPS guidance of $1.78-$1.88 vs consensus of $1.83. (PR) 1 Comment [Earnings, Healthcare]
- Thursday, April 25, 7:31 AM Bristol-Myers (BMY): Q1 EPS of $0.41 misses by $0.01. Revenue of $3.8B. (PR) 1 Comment [Earnings, Breaking News, Healthcare]

- Tuesday, April 23, 12:43 PM Bristol-Myers Squibb's (BMY +1.3%) oral three-drug combo for hepatitis C cured 94% of patients with 12 or 24 weeks of treatment in a Phase II trial. The company now hopes to start Phase III trials by late 2013. Bristol's positive results add to those of AbbVie (ABBV +2.9%), although Gilead (GILD -0.7%) appears to be ahead in the race to market with an oral hepatitis C drug, having already filed an FDA NDA for its sofosbuvir treatment. (PR) Comment! [Healthcare]
- Monday, April 22, 10:02 AM Merck (MRK -0.1%-) gives back an early pre-market gain after announcing that it's entered into a non-exclusive agreement with Bristol-Myers Squibb (BMY) to conduct Phase II clinical trials to evaluate a combination of investigational oral candidates MK-5172 and Daclatasvir for the treatment of chronic Hepatitis C. Under the terms of the agreement, MRK will conduct only the Phase II clinical trial, with further clinical development activities beyond the Phase II studies not covered under the agreement.. Comment! [Healthcare]

"We remain positive on pharmaceuticals," Jefferies says, "valuation is attractive for most stocks." 6 Comments [Healthcare]
- Monday, April 8, 9:53 AM Bristol-Myers (BMY -1.1%) has named company veteran Francis Cuss as Chief Scientific Officer to replace Elliott Sigal, who plans to retire on June 30 after serving in the position since 2004. Sigal will also resign from Bristol's board. Cuss joined Bristol in 2003, since when he has played a major role in helping develop some of the company's most high profile experimental drugs, such as those for hepatitis C and cancer. - Friday, April 5, 10:35 AM Vertex Pharmaceuticals (VRTX +0.1%) bucks a weak tape this morning after saying it's entered into a non-exclusive agreement with Bristol-Myers Squibb (BMY -0.3%) to conduct Phase 2 studies of VRTX's VX-135 in combination with BMY's daclatasvir for the treatment of hepatitis C. As part of the agreement, VRTX will also conduct two Phase 2 studies of the combination, including an initial study in treatment-naive people with genotype 1 HCV infection. The second study is planned for Q2. Comment! [Healthcare]
