- Thursday, August 30, 2012, 11:58 AM BP Prudhoe Bay Royalty Trust (BPT +14.8%) is bouncing big after a disastrous three days since WSJ ran a cautious article on the group, which noted that royalty trusts trade at a premium to the present value of their cash available for distribution. Someone must be seeing blood in the Bay, now finding the risk/reward characteristics of this long-term cash machine more attractive. 13 Comments [Energy, On the Move]
- Wednesday, August 29, 2012, 10:24 AM When the grasping for yield goes bad: BP Prudhoe Bay Royalty Trust (BPT -5.9%) adds to recent losses, now off 27% in 2 weeks. The entire royalty trust sector has been shaken of late thanks to payout cuts at several (HGT, SJT, DOM), and the idea prices for these popular income plays have gotten far ahead of what they could ever pay out. 24 Comments [Energy, On the Move]
- Saturday, August 25, 2012, 8:00 AM Royalty trusts are great (and popular) - up until a dividend cut can seriously ding their unit prices. Oil and gas wells and mines get more depleted, and thus yields are doomed to decline. Great investments at times, the trusts are far from bargains today, with many investors apparently willing to buy on current yield alone. 7 Comments [Commodities, Energy]
- Tuesday, November 29, 2011, 11:05 AM Laszlo Birinyi's five stocks for 2012 - "not for widows and orphans": BlackRock (BLK), People's United Financial (PBCT), General Motors (GM), Research In Motion (RIMM) and France's Hermes. His 2011 picks, made a year ago: Prudhoe Bay (BPT) -12.1% YTD, Cummins (CMI) -18.1%, Ralph Lauren (RL) +27.8%, Priceline (PCLN) +16.5%, and Hermes +46.4%. Comment! [Quick Ideas]
- Tuesday, July 19, 2011, 10:13 AM Test Laszlo Birinyi's stock picking prowess with these five favored stocks: BP Prudhoe Bay Trust (BPT), Ralph Lauren (RL), Priceline (PCLN), Cummins (CMI) and Hermes (HESAF.PK). He says they were chosen to give investors some diversification, some play on energy and the economy, and some exposure to consumers. Comment! [Quick Ideas]
- Thursday, March 31, 2011, 5:35 PM Jeff Reeves' seven dividend stocks to buy for "reliable income in a volatile market": AZN, 5.5% yield; LO, 5.7%; T, 5.8%; BPT, 7.5%; FRO, 7.7%; DPO, 9%; PVD, 9.3%. 4 Comments
- Wednesday, February 16, 2011, 5:55 PM "We’re out there and very comfortable being bullish," Laszlo Birinyi tells CNBC, setting a range of 30%-60% upside for the S&P by 2013. "There was an extraordinary start to this bull market, and when you have starts similar to this, you end up with some very substantial moves," listing XOM, BPT, RL, PCLN and CMI among his favorites. 1 Comment
- Wednesday, December 8, 2010, 1:54 PM "The story this year has been to try to go from the bottom up - not try to get themes, not try to get big ideas," Laszlo Birinyi says. "Look at individual names." With that in mind, his top five stock picks for 2011: Hermes International (HESAF.PK), Priceline (PCLN), Polo Ralph Lauren (RL), BP Prudhoe Bay (BPT), Cummins (CMI).
