Summer Surge for Pharma Powers IHE, but Concerns Remain [view article]
Pharma power is correct. People always need drugs one way or the other, young & old, new drugs or old drugs.
No other country sells more drugs/medicine than the U.S.
People are relying on drugs more & more, either for illness or for sex, or for no reason. So, save to buy stocks on these drug-making companies.

I really feel that investors and analyists that take a short position on a certain stock should be banned from appearing on a business tv show to preach gloom and doom on the Company that they have taken a short position. They slipped up on CNBC yesterday and admitted that they have shorted the Company they were discussing/ Reply

Big Pharma’s Healthy Appetite for Acquisitions [view article]
Why should Carl Icahn accept Bristol's offer at $60? There are no reasons for it at all.

18 months ago, Icahn has blocked ImClone sale to Sanofi for $36. Now, Bristol offers $60.

Icahn has a strong hand. He can tell to major ImClone shareholders: a $60-offer is not good but, in another 12-18 months, I might be able to get a new offer twice as big.

As Imclone's shareholder, I will go for it!

its all a self serving scam.the new word should be "suckerholder&quo... stockholder.the ceo's & bod's are just selfserving & nobody mentions the suckerholder in the boardroom. pay should only be by dividend fro shares bought by management & bod's & no options.that would straighten things out real quick.utopia? Jackooo...you are exactly correct. The companies send out proxies, etc., as a "feel good" exercise, not something that will result in any change of directors, management, etc. The mutual funds are not doing their jobs when they simply go along to get along with extreme compensation packages being set up by compensation committees. Any time a compny is losing money badly, but gives top executives major pay raises, something is wrong inside the management of the companies. Reply

Board and Executive Compensation in S&P 500 [view article]
Years ago when it became so obvious to me that boards of directors were nothing more than good old boys clubs, rubber stamps for corporate executives and every bit as greedy, I began to look in the proxy for the identities of the Compensation Committee. Every proxy I have voted since I have withheld my vote for those committee members and have encouraged others to do the same. May never have an affect but at least its something I can do to express my dissatisfaction... Reply

I have both T and CMCSA. I notice their executive teams are paid the most. That's a shame from these two losers.
The SEC can make up lots more rules & I can vote against the board but unless the mutual fund companies vote their shares against the boards, we individual share holders might as well forget proxy voting.
I cannot understand why the funds don't take the reigns? It is their clients that are losing money. It is true that most of the clients are dumb and lazy regarding financial savy but gezz. You would think the funds would do something, no??

giving the people on the board hefty 'compensation' really amounts to a bribe by the top execs to keep the big exec $ coming, no matter what. Warren Buffet does it right, when it comes to this. good article. thank you. Reply

S&P 500's Best and Worst Net Income Change [view article]
The table provides data only. It does not provide recommendations.

Data is potentially useful depending on the reader and their own investment approach. It is an extract from the full list which simply identifies those companies that are increasing earnings and those that are not. That is potentially important information.

Perhaps one point would be to suggest to some readers how they might gain perspective about sectors, industries or companies by putting together a similar table for their full universe.

So what is the point of this? Buy the dogs and sell the companies with real earnings? Many of the financials will never recover in share price for two reasons, namely, there ability to lever the balance sheet and party in SIV land is over, and exisiting shareholders in most cases have been diluted into oblivion. Tyco should not be on the list imo. The company split into three parts last year and the statistics are screwed up. Reply
