- Friday, May 10, 4:33 PM Medtronic (MDT) says data presented at the Heart Rhythm Society's 34th Annual Scientific Sessions show its Lead Integrity Alert software detected pace/sense lead issues in non-MDT leads at a greater rate than standard impedance monitoring alone. The analysis, which focused on BSX's Endotak leads, shows that for every one Endotak pace/sense lead issue detected by impedance monitoring, the LIA software detected four cases that were missed. - Thursday, May 9, 2:12 PM Boston Scientific (BSX +5%) hits a new 52-week high after reporting follow-up data from its Protect AF clinical trial demonstrating that its Watchman Left Atrial Appendage Closure device was statistically superior to Bristol-Myers (BMY) Warfarin in preventing cardiovascular death, strokes and systemic embolization. 1 Comment [Healthcare, On the Move]
- Friday, April 26, 2:48 PM Boston Scientific (BSX -1.6%) gives back a pre-market pop plus more today, despite being upped to Outperform at Credit Suisse with a price target of $8.75. - Wednesday, April 3, 2:45 PM Boston Scientific (BSX -2.2%) dips after Credit Suisse analyst Bruce Nudell cut the shares from Outperform to Neutral on valuation earlier today. In his report, Nudell notes that while he doesn't see its current valuation as overstretched, the shares are now within 8% of his target price and with elevated expectations from the Street already priced in, the stock no longer has enough upside to warrant the higher rating. Comment! [Healthcare, On the Move]
- Sunday, March 10, 3:48 AM A study has found that Boston Scientific's (BSX) Watchman device for preventing strokes, blood clots and heart-related deaths in patients with atrial fibrillation was safer than thought in a previous trial. However, the product wasn't more effective than the blood thinner warfarin. Notwithstanding, Boston plans to file for FDA approval, although one cardiologist is skeptical, due to the relatively small size and length of the latest study. (PR) 2 Comments [Healthcare]
- Friday, March 8, 11:03 AM Boston Scientific (BSX +0.5%) gets slapped with a patent infringement lawsuit in Ireland filed by Orbus International, a subsidiary of OrbusNeich Medical. The lawsuit contends that BSX's coronary stent systems, including the Promus Element, Promus Element Plus, Omega, Taxus, Synergy, and Promus Premier lines of stents, infringe on two of OrbusNeich's European patents covering certain novel stent designs. OrbusNeich is seeking damages and an injunction prohibiting BSX from manufacturing, offering for sale, marketing or stocking products that infringe on the patents in Ireland. Comment! [Healthcare, Global & FX]
- Tuesday, February 26, 10:03 AM The award of $3.35M against J&J (JNJ +0.8%) over its vaginal mesh in a case involving a South Dakota patient could have an impact on other suits against the company and rival manufacturers C.R. Bard (BCR +0.3%), Boston Scientific (BSX -0.3%) and Endo Health (ENDP +0.3%). Around 11,000 claims have been consolidated into five cases that are pending in West Virginia. Comment! [Healthcare]
- Tuesday, February 12, 2:57 PM Boston Scientific (BSX -0.5%) slips into the red today, despite saying it's received CE Mark approval for the Promus Premier Everolimus-Eluting Platinum Chromium Coronary Stent System, and is initiating its European market launch. The system is designed to provide physicians improved drug eluting stent performance for treating patients with coronary artery disease. 2 Comments [Healthcare, Global & FX]
- Thursday, January 31, 4:09 PM Despite the marketshare gains Cardiovascular Systems (CSII) has made with its Diamondback and Stealth devices for treating narrowed or blocked arteries in the leg, the real value in the company may lie in its takeout potential, says Seeking Alpha contributor Stephen Simpson. CR Bard, Cook, BSX, JNJ, MDT and ABT all have sales forces in the peripheral treatment space, making them solid candidates for a possible buyout of CSII. Comment! [Healthcare, M&A]
