- Wednesday, February 27, 7:12 AM More on Anheuser-Busch InBev (BUD): Despite sluggish growth projections for the U.S. and Brazil, the brewer expects to make some ground back in China and held its market share in other key markets. Consumer trends could also be working back into its favor as A-B says more customers are moving away from wine and liquor to cheaper beer alternatives. (earnings) 1 Comment [Global & FX, Consumer]
- Wednesday, February 27, 2:13 AM Anheuser-Busch InBev (BUD) proposes a dividend of €1.70/share. Shares will trade ex-coupon as of April 26 and dividends will be payable as from May 2. Date of record April 30. To move to semi-annual dividend payments starting with payouts for FY 2013, payable in November 2013 and May 2014. (PR) Comment! [Consumer, Dividends]
- Wednesday, February 27, 2:08 AM Anheuser-Busch InBev (BUD): Q4 Normalized profit -8.5% to $1.79B; EBITDA +9.9% to $4.39B vs consensus of $4.36B; EPS -9% to $1.12. Organic revenue +8.8% to $10.29B vs consensus for 6.2% growth. Total volumes -0.1%. Forecasts that Q1 volume in U.S. will be hit by pressure on consumer disposable income and a harsher winter; in Brazil, volume will be hurt by wet weather and an early Carnival period; expects 2013 beer sales to grow in the country by low to mid-single digits. - Tuesday, February 26, 3:03 AM AB InBev (BUD) and the Justice Department are reportedly moving closer to agreement that would persuade the DOJ to approve AB InBev's acquisition of control in Grupo Modelo. Discussions are focusing on the company's offer to sell a Modelo brewery, which is similar to InBev's sale of Labatt USA when it bought Anheuser-Busch for $52B in 2009. 1 Comment [Consumer, M&A]
- Monday, February 25, 12:15 PM A federal judge approves an extension to the trial of the Department of Justice against Anheuser-Busch InBev (BUD -0.5%) after both sides agree a delay would help provide time to work out a settlement. An amendment to the purchase terms of Grupo Modelo seems to have the deal back on track. 3 Comments [Global & FX, Consumer, M&A]
- Thursday, February 21, 3:23 AM AB InBev (BUD) is in talks with the Department of Justice to allay the latter's competition concerns over the company's proposal to take full control of Modelo, with the sides yesterday asking a court to delay the DOJ's antitrust suit against the deal until March 19. The request came after AB InBev offered further concessions, including selling Modelo's Piedras Negras brewery to Constellation Brands (STZ). Comment! [Consumer, Top Stories, M&A]

WIN -5%. 1 Comment [On the Move] - Thursday, February 14, 7:38 AM Analyst take on Anheuser-Busch InBev (BUD): A-B should rally after striking a revised deal on Grupo Modelo which might pass muster with regulators. Though a lot of the focus is on the concessions the brewer made in the U.S., on a global basis the company looks to have found a growth lever in a sluggish beer environment. BUD +4.4% premarket to $91.44. Comment! [Global & FX, Consumer]
- Thursday, February 14, 3:49 AM AB InBev (BUD) amends the terms of its $20.1B proposal to acquire the 50% of Modelo it doesn't own as it looks to allay U.S. antitrust concerns. AB InBev says it will sell the Mexican company's Piedras Negras brewery to Constellation Brands (STZ) and give the latter perpetual rights to sell Corona and other Modelo brands in the U.S. in a deal worth $2.9B. And as originally planned, Constellation will buy the 50% of Crown Imports it doesn't own from Modelo for $1.85B. (PR) 4 Comments [Consumer, Top Stories, M&A]
- Monday, February 11, 6:00 AM AB InBev's (BUD) $20.1B attempt to buy the 50% of Grupo Modelo it doesn't own could be hit by one unforeseen factor - the appointment of the slowest judge in Washington to oversee the Justice Department's lawsuit against the deal. Last year, Judge Richard Roberts had 73 motions pending for over six months and more than 50 cases pending for over three years. Comment! [M&A, Consumer]
- Saturday, February 9, 11:05 AM Constellation Brands (STZ) and Crown Imports seek to join the DOJ antitrust lawsuit against Anheuser-Busch InBev (BUD) in order to ensure that their interests are protected in front of the court. Since the government stepped in with concerns over the pairing up of Bud Light Lime and Grupo Modelo's Corona, shares of STZ are down 20% and BUD has slipped 10%. A deal which sees A-B divest key brands is still expected by analysts. 4 Comments [Consumer, Global & FX]
- Friday, February 8, 9:18 AM Anheuser-Busch InBev (BUD) signs on Justin Timberlake (yes, that one) to become the new Creative Director at Bud Light Platinum. The development is interesting because the brand is right smack in the middle of the brewer's battle with regulators over the Grupo Modelo acquisition. A-B sees the Bud Light Platinum-Corona combination as critical to grow its market share with Hispanic consumers. 1 Comment [Global & FX, Consumer]
- Thursday, February 7, 11:06 AM Anheuser-Busch InBev (BUD -0.8%) may have a way to appease regulators blocking its Grupo Modelo acquisition with Pabst Brewing stepping up to say it would consider a bid for the Michelob brand. P-E owned Pabst has a history of adding out-of-favor beer brands to its portfolio with Schlitz, Stroh, Heileman, and Olympia all in its pantry. The deal may be attractive for A-B as it looks to keep the potential Corona and Bud Light Lime synergy in play. Comment! [Consumer, Global & FX]
- Wednesday, February 6, 10:39 AM Anheuser-Busch InBev (BUD -1.1%) plans to continue to heavily advertise its new Budweiser Black Crown and Beck's Sapphire beers after the products were introduced during Super Bowl promotions. In a climate of slipping beer consumption globally, A-B is trying to tap into consumer preferences toward heavier and more craft-like brews. 1 Comment [Global & FX, Consumer]
- Monday, February 4, 6:46 AM Bank of America downgrades Anheuser-Busch InBev (BUD) to Neutral from Buy, adding to a wave of analyst cuts since the DOJ stepped in to block the brewer's merger with Grupo Modelo. BUD -3.9% premarket. (Previous: A-B vows to fight back) Comment! [Global & FX, Consumer]
- Monday, February 4, 4:18 AM AB InBev (BUD) intends to "vigorously contest" the Department of Justice's lawsuit that seeks to block the company's $20B deal to take control of Modelo, arguing that the DOJ's analysis that the transaction will lead to too much consolidation in the U.S. beer sector and cause price increases is flawed. Experts reckon the sides will try to thrash out an agreement in private, with concessions possibly including the sale of Modelo's bottling plant in Mexico. 1 Comment [M&A, Consumer]
