- Monday, May 20, 11:02 AM McCraith Beverages filed a federal lawsuit in New York against Anheuser-Busch InBev (BUD -0.6%) over old distribution rights to brands acquired by the company. A-B says its believes the law supports it granting new brand rights for equity wholesalers. Comment! [Consumer, Global & FX]
- Friday, May 17, 12:57 PM Anheuser-Busch InBev (BUD -1%) says it will buy C&G Distributing Co. for an undisclosed amount with an eye on closing the deal within the next 90 days before a state law goes into effect in Ohio that prohibits brewers from owning distributors. Expect more cat and mouse from A-B as other states are reportedly considering the same type of legislation. Comment! [Consumer]
- Friday, May 17, 9:13 AM Big beer companies including Anheuser-Busch InBev (BUD), Molson Coors (TAP), SABMiller (SBMRY.PK), Heineken (HINKY.PK), and Constellation Brands (STZ) support legislation that they say would take away some of the advantages craft brewers have on excise taxes. While separating the big boys like A-B from smaller local players is pretty easy, things get more confusing when trying to label brewers such as Boston Beer (SAM) and Craft Brew Alliance (BREW) with indy roots. What to watch: Though sluggish beer volume in the U.S. is a major concern, the battle over excise taxes could be just as big for bottom lines. Comment! [Consumer, Global & FX]
- Tuesday, May 7, 2:57 PM Craft brewery execs say they're increasingly brushing back offers from big brewers and P-E firms to consider selling their business. The buzz is over craft beer sales which are growing at a double-digit rate, while global brewery sales continue to move up at a snail's pace. What's next: As Anheuser-Busch InBev (BUD +0.9%), SABMiller (SBMRY.PK), Molson Coors (TAP -0.9%), and even winemaker Constellation Brands (STZ) get even thirstier for growth, will craft brew companies continue to resist the temptation to cash in? 5 Comments [Consumer, Global & FX, M&A]
- Tuesday, April 30, 10:44 AM Heard during Anheuser-Busch InBev's (BUD -1.7%) earnings call: 1) Brazil and Russia were disappointing markets while China saw solid growth. 2) In the U.S., weather is blamed but questions on the company's pricing strategy seem to cut closer to the issue. 3) CEO Carlos Brito claims new Budweiser bowtie-shaped cans will be a topic of conversation and create buzz for the brand. (webcast) Comment! [Global & FX, Consumer]

- Tuesday, April 30, 4:13 AM "Volumes in Brazil in March, in particular, were more challenging than expected," Anheuser-Busch Inbev (BUD) says, impacted by high food inflation and a slowdown in the growth of disposable income. "We expect these factors to continue to put pressure on volumes in the short term. We are therefore revising our outlook for volume growth in Brazil and now expect that beer industry volumes in FY13 will be either flat or down low single-digits compared to FY12." 3 Comments [Earnings, Consumer]
- Tuesday, April 30, 4:10 AM Anheuser-Busch Inbev (BUD): Q1 Ebitda of $3.43B misses by $0.14B. Revenue +1.5%. Volume declined by 4.1%, led by an 8.2% plunge in Brazil; China volume rose 15.5%. - Monday, April 29, 1:07 PM Speculation that PepsiCo (PEP +0.3%) will either snap up Mondelez International (MDLZ +0.2%) and spin off a new snack company or explore combination opportunities with Anheuser-Busch InBev (BUD +1.5%) continues to swirl around to affect the conversation on the stock. Though the company hasn't tipped off anything big in nature, PepsiCo CEO Indra Nooyi did tease about exploring "structural options" for the North American beverage business during the firm's recent earnings call. - Thursday, April 18, 8:56 AM Anheuser-Busch InBev (BUD) is on watch after SABMiller warns on the impact of fragile economies in Brazil and Argentina on beer demand. Though SABMiller's exposure to the region is much higher, lower beer volumes in South America don't bode well for A-B either. BUD -0.7% premarket. Comment! [Consumer, Global & FX]
- Wednesday, April 17, 11:27 AM Anheuser-Busch InBev (BUD -2.4%) isn't commenting on reports out of India that it's considering building new facilities in India. Though the region has been tapped as a likely market to see strong growth, the brewer might be hesitant to push forward with it already facing regulatory issues with its operations there. Comment! [Global & FX, Consumer]
- Monday, April 8, 7:43 AM Anheuser-Busch InBev (BUD) plans to make acquisitions in China to tap into rising beer consumption in the nation. CEO Carlos Brito says the company needs local production given the double-digit growth in the world's third-largest market. Comment! [Global & FX, Consumer]
- Friday, April 5, 6:35 PM Anheuser-Busch InBev (BUD), Grupo Modelo and Constellation Brands (STZ) confirm a tentative agreement with the U.S. Department of Justice to allow their three-way beer deal to get approved.
