Sunday, February 28, 2010, 7:13 PM Forex derivatives trading surged 15% in Q4 to a record $8T, BIS says in its quarterly report (.pdf). "The data provide some support for the notion of the (renewed) attractiveness of forex carry trades," a once-popular scheme in which investors borrow low-yield currencies to invest in high-yield instruments. Open interest in two of the most attractive target currencies - Australian dollar (ETF: FXA) and Brazilian real (BZF) - has increased considerably. Comment!
