Monday, April 22, 3:21 PM New CA (CA +0.7%) CEO Michael Gregoire is apparently counting on M&A to bolster long-flagging growth. CA says it's acquiring Layer 7, a provider of software for managing and securing software APIs, and Nolio, a developer of tools for automating the management of app deployment and maintenance. The acquisitions are both aimed at strengthening CA's offerings for app development projects, and come in the wake of similar deals from tech giants: Intel announced it's acquiring API management software firm Mashery last week, and just today, IBM announced it's buying app delivery automation firm UrbanCode. Monday, April 8, 11:16 AM CA (CA -1.9%) heads south following a downgrade to Neutral from Mizuho, which is worried the systems management software firm's CEO change could disrupt its product development efforts over the short-term. Thursday, February 14, 11:14 AM ServiceNow (NOW +7.4%) jumps after receiving a two-notch upgrade to Buy from UBS: the firm cites valuation, growing adoption of ServiceNow's cloud-based IT service desk platform, and the end of major post-IPO share lockups. Yesterday, SA contributor Max Returns declared ServiceNow a buy for many of the same reasons, and noted the company is taking share from incumbents CA and BMC. FQ2 EPS was propped up by $250M in stock buybacks. Bookings fell 13% Y/Y, and backlog by 7% (North American bookings -25%).
