Right Stan...voting republican has done so much good for our nation over the past several years. Just look at the great strides our economy has taken under a republican regime. Not to mention our standing in the world. You're a real thinker there Stan. ReplyRadio Industry: Off-Air Revenue Soars, Despite Overall Slump [view article]
All, remember that the two democrats voted against the merger in the end. If Obama wins, the FCC board will be 3 democrats and 2 republicans. If that happens we can expect them to throw everything they have at SIRI to either kill it or bust it up. VOTE REPUBLICAN!! ReplyMicrosoft's Zune and Radio Broadcasters Team Up [view article]
all the 'smartphones' and mp3 players are losing ground to the ipod and iphone. typical gates, films HIMSELF with jerry seinfeld...obviously the PRODUCT isn't all that interesting. and they talk about shoe size. the windows logo is at the end of the commercial. i hope they keep making commercials like this because i'm long appl! ReplyMicrosoft's Zune and Radio Broadcasters Team Up [view article]
Apple already has this feature for HD radio and has for months. No way Apple will put an FM tuner in an iPod. If you want to listen to FM, just buy an FM player, they are only about $10. iPod is about YOUR music, not about listening to pre-programmed radio with all it's commercials.Adding 'even more appeal'? I didn't realize Zune had any appeal to begin with outside the most diehard windoze zealots. Even the Microsoft employees use iPod. Reply

Hate to say it, but NBC did not do well. It seems everybody else but NBC benefited from the Olympics.divinitymetrics.com/bl.../

Interesting insight there Vball... had not heard that angle before. ReplyNBC Beijing '08 Online Metrics: High Viewership, Little Revenue [view article]
NBC screwed us by skewing the Olympic coverage towards prime-time volleyball. We are told that they even negotiated with the IOC and Beijing in order to re-schedule the volleyball games for prime-time broadcast.
Why did we need to stay up until midnight to see traditional events like gymnastics? Because NBC bought exclusive rights to broadcast volleyball for the next 5 years and they needed to create an audience for America's 'New Sport'. Even the legendary Decathlon was ignored.
So if you want to know why the Internet coverage was so robust you need look no further than NBC's narrow, biased and self centered TV programming.

Personally, I am really suprise Networks haven't done more in general to get content online. It is so easy to skip advertisments when veiwing content OTA, but most netbase broadcasts can ensure the viewers are forced to watch ads with click to continues etc. They could even require the viewer to create a profile with basic information that could target the ads to the right segements even further increasing the value of the slot to advertisers. Seems advertisers would get much more bang for they buck just skipping OTA advertising altogther. ReplyWhat Does Quality Online Video Look Like? [view article]
Hey, the market is changing so fast, you should look a bit deeper. First, High quality video is available from more than just the major networks. Using CDNs (Content Delivery Networks) like BitGravity, designed to distribute video, and even adjust the quality based on the bandwidth available, HD is more than 'here', it is prevalent. You can almost consider YouTube to be the 'old guard' vs. the folks out there now continuing the Internet tradition of re-invention and improvement. Look at sites like Revision3, an entire TV station on the net, creating custom content. It will all redefine how we even consider this medium... I do appreciate the commentary from everyone.Mr. Carson, I especially appreciate your commentary regarding some dividend paying ETNs. The unique features of some of these ETNs are certainly worth exploring. Thanks again! Reply
