- Tuesday, May 14, 10:02 AM "We believe one of the biggest questions on investors' minds is can [they] grow FY14 earnings," says Jefferies, stating what might fairly be called "the obvious" in a note upgrading WellPoint (WLP +1.5%) to Buy from Hold and raising the stock's price target to $92. After a "deep dive" analysis, the investment bank says it sees 7-8% EPS growth against the Street's 2.4% consensus and predicts $8.61 per share for FY14, making WLP the cheapest MCO stock, trading at 8.8x forward earnings. Meanwhile, Cigna (CI -1.8%) is "ready for a breather" and catches a downgrade to Hold from Buy — CI's CFO Ralph Nicoletti announced Monday he is leaving the company for personal reasons. Comment! [Healthcare, On the Move]
- Thursday, February 28, 10:54 AM Catamaran (CTRX -5%) beats on it's Q4, but the stock its trading lower after CEO Mark Thierer failed to quell concerns by investors over the potential loss of its business with Cigna (CI -1.3%) - a key question surrounding the pharmacy-benefits manager- and the earnings impact if CTRX winds up losing them. Comment! [Healthcare, Earnings, On the Move]
- Tuesday, February 19, 9:39 AM It's not just Humana (-9.6%) suffering from prospective declines in reimbursement rates for Medicare Advantage plans in 2014, with UnitedHealth (UNH) -5.2%, Cigna (CI) -5.5%, Aetna (AET) -3.5% and Universal America (UAM) -8.95%. 7 Comments [Healthcare, On the Move]

[On the Move] - Friday, October 19, 2012, 10:43 AM Healthways (HWAY -11.3%) slips after its Q3 beat on its bottom line but came up short on revenue late yesterday. Net earnings fell 47% Y/Y as revenue was hurt by the continued wind-down of a contract with Cigna Corp. (CI). The company also lowered its full-year earnings estimates and narrowed its sales view due to higher operational costs as well as reduced revenue from two contracts that were renewed early. Comment! [Earnings, On the Move, Healthcare]
- Wednesday, July 25, 2012, 11:36 AM Health insurers take a pummeling after Wellpoint's (WLP -12%) miserable Q2 report, even though some analysts say that the company has specific challenges. Citigroup's Carl McDonald reckons management could come under pressure. Still, HealthNet (HNT) -10%, UnitedHealth (UNH) -5.6%, Coventry (CVH) -4.9%, Humana (HUM) -3%, Cigna (CI) -3.9% and Aetna (AET) -4.9%. 1 Comment [Healthcare, On the Move]
- Thursday, June 28, 2012, 10:22 AM Healthcare stocks that are down following the Supreme Court opinion on the Healthcare Act include: CVH -1.3%, UNH -1.1%, AET -1.2%, CI -1.5%, CHSI -0.5%, WLP -2.5%, HUM -2%. Those that are up include: UAM +0.8%, MOH +6.3%, HNT +3.1%. 1 Comment [Breaking News, Top Stories, Healthcare, On the Move]
- Thursday, March 29, 2012, 3:24 PM The DJIA pokes its head into the green after being down nearly 100 points earlier. The S&P 500 (-0.3%) and Nasdaq (-0.3%) remain slightly negative. Leading on the upside are the health insurers as analysts conclude it's bullish if the Obamacare mandate is struck down and bullish if it's upheld. Sweet! 3 Comments [On the Move, Healthcare]
- Thursday, March 29, 2012, 12:12 PM The market's interpreting the Supreme Court hearings over Obamacare as positive for insurers, which are getting a lift. Comments from Justices indicate they believe that if mandatory insurance is struck down, they may have to also void the rule requiring carriers to provide coverage to all. AET +5.3%, CVH +4.6%, CI +3.9%, UNH +3.4%, HUM +1.9%, WLP +2.1%, HNT +3.1%. (previously I, II) 1 Comment [On the Move]
- Tuesday, March 6, 2012, 2:29 PM Cowen's healthcare conference sparks renewed chatter that Cigna (CI -2.7%) could unload its pharmacy benefit manager business, a move it considered in 2009. J.P. Morgan analysts say a sale would be the “best possible outcome” for CI's earnings; they also don’t rule out CI following Aetna in outsourcing its operations given CI believes the service is important. Comment! [Healthcare, On the Move]
- Thursday, February 2, 2012, 2:51 PM Cigna's (CI -3.9%) earnings fell 37% in Q4 amid acquisition-related charges and accounting changes, but the bigger weight on shares is the insurer's downward earnings guidance and rising use of medical services in the new year. Cigna expects 2012 EPS of $5-$5.40 vs. $5.68 consensus. Peers also are lower: AET -0.3%, CVH -1.2%, HUM -1.4%, UNH -1.4%, WLP -1.6%. Comment! [Healthcare, On the Move]

HUM -3.2%. UAM -4.5%. WLP -2.4%. UNH -2.7%. CI -2.8%. Cuts to Medicare Advantage are widely expected. (previously) Comment! [Healthcare, On the Move]
- Tuesday, January 17, 2012, 3:47 PM Cigna (CI +2.5%) moves higher after announcing a JV with Indian conglomerate TTK Group to sell health insurance products across India. Pending approval by India's regulatory authorities, Cigna TTK is expected to begin operations in early 2013 and will build its workforce locally. Comment! [Healthcare, On the Move]
- Thursday, December 8, 2011, 3:14 PM Healthways (HWAY +5.6%), which was crushed in October on news of a Cigna (CI) contract loss, rallies after Stifel upgrades shares to Buy and lifts its PT to $13. The firm notes Healthways' margins have held up well in the face of declining revenue, and thinks improving jobs data bodes well for the company. Comment! [Healthcare, On the Move, Quick Ideas]

The day's biggest loser? No, not Neflix (NFLX -34.3%)... it's Healthways (HWAY -44%), which posts its worst-ever share price loss after disclosing its top customer, Cigna (CI), will allow its contract with the company to wind down ahead of expiration. The Cigna loss, while hitting revenues only by 15%, impacts earnings by up to 60%, Piper Jaffray says, seeing no EPS growth for two years.
