- Wednesday, May 8, 6:05 PM More on Continental Resources' (CLR) Q1 results: The largest leaseholder in the Bakken shale, CLR has reported higher quarterly revenue for three years. Average production rose 42% to a record ~121.5K boe/day; 71% is crude oil. Oil production rose 44% though prices fell 0.7%, natural gas rose 38% while prices were up 11%, crude oil equivalents rose 40% and prices added 1.3%. Shares -1.6% AH. 1 Comment [Energy, Earnings, On the Move]
- Thursday, May 2, 11:57 AM EOG Resources (EOG +0.6%) could see 25% annual oil production growth in coming years, and its stock trades at cheaper multiples than rivals, RBC says as it adds EOG to its "energy best ideas" list. The firm also adds Oceaneering (OII +2.3%); it boots Helmerich & Payne (HP +1.9%) and Precision Drilling (PDS +1%), whose U.S. rig counts have not risen as quickly as expected, as well as Continental Resources (CLR -0.8%). Comment! [Energy, Quick Ideas, On the Move]
- Thursday, March 21, 3:07 PM Investors fear Harold Hamm's contentious divorce could lead to a record financial settlement - he's worth an estimated $11.3B - and threaten his control of fast-growing Continental Resources (CLR -2.8%). Under Oklahoma family law, wealth accrued through the efforts of either spouse during a marriage would typically be subject to "equitable distribution" between the parties. 4 Comments [Energy, On the Move]
- Thursday, March 21, 2:02 PM Continental Resources (CLR -3.1%) shares are under pressure after Chairman and CEO Harold Hamm confirms a pending divorce, even as CLR says the divorce "has not and is not anticipated to have" any impact on the company's business or operations. 8 Comments [Energy, On the Move]
- Thursday, January 24, 10:47 AM Continental Resources (CLR -1.7%), the Bakken's top producer and leaseholder, says it increased its year-end 2012 proved reserves 54% to 785M boe (72% oil). CLR's Bakken proved reserves totaled 564M boe, almost double proved reserves in the play at the end of 2011. Q4 production was ~9.8M boe, or 106,831 boe/day, a 42% Y/Y gain and the 19th straight quarterly rise. Comment! [Energy, On the Move]
- Friday, January 4, 3:07 PM Continental Resources (CLR +2.2%) is initiated with a Buy rating and $94 price target at Deutsche Bank, which views CLR as uniquely positioned, with the dominant Bakken position in the industry, peer leading volume and cash flow growth, and deep resource inventory with significant upside from lower benches and downspacing. The firm sees costs and capital efficiency turning a corner in 2013. 1 Comment [Energy, Quick Ideas, On the Move]
- Friday, December 28, 2012, 2:50 PM Continental Resources (CLR -2.2%) shares slide on news the energy company's CFO, vice chairman (I, II) and a senior VP sold a total of 69,498 shares at $72.46-$74.25 during the Dec. 21-27 period, worth a combined ~$5.1M. 2 Comments [Energy, On the Move]
- Monday, December 3, 2012, 10:09 AM Continental Resources (CLR +4.8%) successfully completes the Charlotte 3-22H, its first horizontal well to test the third bench of the Three Forks zone in the Bakken field. Stifel Nicolaus upgrades CLR to Buy from Hold, seeing an attractive entry point, top-tier underlying asset quality in the Bakken, and asset upside via upcoming bench tests in Three Forks providing near-term catalysts. Comment! [Energy, On the Move]
- Tuesday, October 9, 2012, 2:17 PM Newfield Energy (NFX +6.3%) surges to the top of the S&P 500 leader board after Continental Resources (CLR +3.6%) announces a shale oil discovery in Oklahoma may add 1.8B boe of crude to CLR’s reserves and is geologically similar to the Bakken region (earlier). NFX owns ~135K net acres in the Cana Woodford project near CLR’s discovery. Comment! [Energy, On the Move]
- Monday, September 24, 2012, 11:45 AM A Reuters story depicts Continental Resources' (CLR -2.7%) CEO Harold Hamm as a shrewd operator, while WSJ weighs in to highlight the company's what's-next dilemma after a string of drilling successes inflated CLR’s share price and Hamm’s personal wealth. Investors are growing nervous about CLR because it's a high-multiple stock, an analyst says; others worry about CLR's spending. 1 Comment [Energy, On the Move]
- Thursday, August 9, 2012, 3:27 PM Continental Resources (CLR +3.7%) CEO Rick Bott says the driller will increase its 2012 capex budget to $3B, up from a revised $2.3B announced in May, due to higher costs and ramped up activity in the Bakken shale. CLR cut the number of Bakken rigs it operates to 19 from 26 in Q2; it has reduced the time it takes to drill a well by 30%, which enabled it to spud more wells with fewer rigs. Comment! [Energy, On the Move]
- Thursday, August 9, 2012, 8:25 AM Continental Resources (CLR): Q2 EPS of $0.68 misses by $0.07. Revenue of $523M (+34.6% Y/Y) misses by $31M. Achieved record production of 94,852 boe/day, a 76% Y/Y increase. Shares -2.4% premarket. (PR) Comment! [Energy, Earnings, On the Move]
- Monday, May 21, 2012, 10:07 AM Continental Resources (CLR +3.4%) shares are up on news that CEO Harold Hamm bought 100K shares of the company on May 16 at $71-$72.50, worth ~$7.2M. Following the purchases, Hamm holds an aggregate of more than 123M shares directly. Comment! [Energy, On the Move]
- Thursday, May 3, 2012, 2:57 PM On a bad day all around for energy stocks (XLE -1.8%), Continental Resources (CLR -8.2%) fares worst than most after its Q1 results missed analyst estimates, hurt by higher operating costs. CLR forecast 47%-50% production growth in 2012 on increased spending of $2.3B after already raising expectations twice this year. 2 Comments [Energy, On the Move]
- Thursday, April 19, 2012, 11:57 AM Continental Resources (CLR +3.5%) says it expects Q1 production to average ~85,000 boepd, a 13% gain Q/Q and 65% Y/Y. CLR says it is operationally ahead of plan for the year while reducing its operated drilling rigs, as scheduled. Comment! [Energy, On the Move]
- Wednesday, January 25, 2012, 2:22 PM Shares of Continental Resources (CLR +10.3%) jump after the biggest petroleum leaseholder in North Dakota’s Bakken Shale field reports a 57% Y/Y production increase and 39% growth in reserves. S&P raises its rating on CLR’s debt one notch to BB+, saying it expects production and reserve growth to continue. Comment! [Energy, On the Move]
