Strengthening Dollar Offsets Loss at Canadian Railways [view article]
Good article defining a well run Company. CN has consistently exhibited quality leadership delivering on the Company's mission to provide an unsurpassed level of service. The current stock price is well below it's true value. ReplyGetting Onboard the Canadian Railroad Stocks [view article]
Personally, I think all railroads are ready for a severe correction. CP has been acting very badly technically, thus I am short that company. CN has been a lot stronger in comparison but looks very toppy. The U.S. railroads are also showing early signs of correcting. These are just my opinions but the action they are showing me indicate to step aside these for a while. ReplyGetting Onboard the Canadian Railroad Stocks [view article]
Don't forget, Canada has the highest tax rates on earth. It tax everything to death. That's why all their good doctors are now working in the USA. Reply

Thanks sandspider for your kind words. Glad you like it. ReplyGetting Onboard the Canadian Railroad Stocks [view article]
I think wallyjm means reduce the number of long distance truckers.... If rails are up,you should see an increase in local truckers. In other words, you need to move the goods from the rails to the warehouses on a local basis. I've got a couple flagged for when they begin to move up, but can't really remember the names... But I don't mean UPS and FEDEX necessarily. There are truckers that operate warehouses, small parcel rucks and handle the logistics that should move if rails do. And as oil is down, you should also see a reduction in their overhead.Just an aside..... Can you imagine how effective the rail system would be if the Federal Government spent as much on rails as it does on Air? Could be a Rennaisance for rails!

To penny , love call on JNJ ! Also look at PEP , PG . these guys , JNJ , PG , and PEP have all doubled pay-out over last decade . ReplyLooking for the Perfect Dividend Stock [view article]
To quiz , div. will not last for MCHP will not last . They can barely cover div. now . They are in highly viotile biz. The stock is a roller coaster to put it mildly ! They will not be able to grow fast enough to keep raising div. they can barely cover now ! ReplyLooking for the Perfect Dividend Stock [view article]
to penny stock , why would you invest in stock with low div. growth like ED . Over last 10 years stock has also earned about a 25% stock price gain along with avg. yield of about 5.5% . Stock has been very stable ! So investors have gained about 8% a year . Not huge , but not bad . Replyocks

Just to clarify something about Canadian energy trusts. They were not created by establishing a tax loophole. The Canadian Govt made a decision to further encourage exploration and development of oil, nat gas, and coal properties that the oil majors were not interested in developing (due to poor economics). This was a wise decision which the current Ottawa Govt has completely forgotten as Canadian reserves have grown over 100% since CANROYs were established. Besides this fact would anyone claim that US REITs were established out of a tax loophole? Don't think so. Loophole is a bogus word in this context. To expand on the previous comments about US investments in Canada.Canada is the largest provider of oil to the USA. $150 billion dollars is spent by the USA for Canadian oil. Unlike money spent for Middle East oil which moves one way, the Canada is the largest buyer for US exports ($215 billion according to cia.gov). There is a circuluation of money between the USA and Canada, unlike the money spent for Middel East oil which never returns to the USA and is spent on royal palaces, indoor ski hills and underwater hotels. najdorf, very true. There is much to like about Canada, but too much of their otherwise healthy economy remains dependent on the US. Most notable, and worrisome, is the extent to which Ontario and Quebec depend on US automobile manufacturers. The agricultural and materials activities in the west offer far more favourable prospects. Regardless of whether there is a population boom (due to continued arctic warming and/or migration out of the sinking US), these activities will continue to generate demand for transportation of both equipment and supplies and output product. A population boom would only serve to increase demand for transportation of consumer goods, since few are manufactured there. All of this is great news for CNI, by far the best company in your list despite its modest dividend. The others are either banks or oil/mining concerns; CNI will continue to benefit from the boom, and when the inevitable bust comes it will still have an excellent business of lasting value.
