- Monday, May 20, 5:58 PM Cabot Oil & Gas (COG) says it is using natural gas to fracture wells in the Marcellus shale via dual-fuel technology in a process that can displace as much as 70% of the diesel fuel traditionally used to operate fracking equipment, a first for the area. COG says the goals of its dual-fuel projects are to reduce air emissions and truck traffic, as well as cut costs. 2 Comments [Energy]
- Thursday, May 16, 4:59 PM Cabot Oil & Gas (COG) is upgraded to Overweight at Simmons, which calls it one of the premier, low-cost producers in the Marcellus shale whose production should grow 40% per year for the next three years. COG is expected to generate nearly $400M in free cash flow next year, rare for an E&P company and “indicative of a high quality company with top tier assets,” the firm says. Comment! [Energy, Quick Ideas]
- Wednesday, May 15, 6:03 PM Third Point discloses new positions in: Anadarko Petroleum (APC), BE Aerospace (BEAV), Cabot Oil (COG), Chimera Investment (CIM), Hess (HES), Hilshire Brands (HSH), Tiffany (TIF), Thermo Fisher (TMO), and Virgin Media (MMED). It raises stakes in: AbbVie (ABBV) and International Paper (IP), and exits Abbott Labs (ABT), Capital One (COF), Coca-Cola Enterprises (CCE), Herbalife (HLF), Illumina (ILMN), MetLife (MET), Morgan Stanley (MS) and Tesoro (TSO). - Thursday, April 25, 2:11 PM Cabot Oil & Gas (COG +4.2%) makes a strong showing after Q1 earnings more than doubled, benefiting from continued strong growth in natural gas production despite weak prices. UBS raises its target price on COG to $67 from $59, seeing 2013 production growth at the high end of guidance on continued success from step-out drilling in the eastern Marcellus shale. 3 Comments [Energy, On the Move]
- Wednesday, April 24, 7:23 PM More on Cabot Oil & Gas (COG): Q1 beats on both EPS and revenue as total sales topped 37% Y/Y, driven by solid drilling performance out of its Marcellus operations. Net earnings more than doubled on strong growth in natural-gas production, despite weak prices. Natural-gas output rose 51% while realized average prices decreased by 5.5%. Output of oil, condensate and natural-gas liquids - which make up only a small part of the company's production - rose 28% as average prices grew 7.6%. 1 Comment [Commodities, Earnings]
- Wednesday, April 24, 6:11 PM Cabot Oil & Gas (COG): Q1 EPS of $0.26 beats by $0.01. Revenue of $373.2M (+37% Y/Y) beats by $3M. (PR) Comment! [Earnings, Energy, Breaking News]

- Friday, April 5, 10:32 AM Bill Barrett (BBG +5.2%) is upgraded to Buy from Neutral at Goldman Sachs, which believes the surplus in natural gas is over and prices should rise to the upper end of $4.00-$4.50 per MMBtu. Goldman says BBG is "in the early stages of an improving resource base trading at an attractive valuation likely to be supported by rising gas prices." COG +2.5%, SWN +2%. Comment! [Energy, Quick Ideas, On the Move]
- Thursday, March 14, 12:49 PM Rising natural gas prices and lower inventories boost shares of gas-focused firms, including WPX Energy (WPX +5.2%), the S&P's top performer. But Susquehanna warns of unwarranted optimism in WPX, seeing "weak execution going forward reflecting a lower than peer average capacity to reinvest and lack of visible scale of reinvention target." Also: CHK +2.8%, NBL +3.2%, COG +2.6%, LNG +5%, KWK +17.6%. Comment! [Energy, On the Move]
- Friday, February 22, 4:39 PM Cabot Oil & Gas (COG +11%) shares soared to all-time highs after reporting record highs in annual revenues and cash flows, and Global Hunter thinks COG is set for a great 2013: "Production growth should range from 30% to 50% in 2013... Were Cabot to do nothing more than hold its recent 1.0B cfe/day production rate flat for 2013, it would represent... 36.8% growth over 2012′s average production rate." 1 Comment [Energy, On the Move]
- Friday, February 22, 10:08 AM Cabot Oil & Gas (COG +8%) rockets to the top of the S&P 500 leader board after posting strong Q4 beats in earnings and revenues. Year-end 2012 proved reserves rose 27% Y/Y to 3.8T cfe, the third consecutive year of reserve growth exceeding 20%. COG says it had 15 of the top 20 producing Marcellus wells in Pennsylvania during 2012. $1B capex plan for 2013 remains unchanged. 1 Comment [Energy, On the Move]
- Thursday, February 21, 6:21 PM Cabot Oil & Gas (COG): Q4 EPS of $0.27 beats by $0.06. Revenue of $369.9M beats by $21M. (PR) 1 Comment [Earnings, Breaking News, Energy]
