Bullish Dollar Rally - Fast Money Recap (8/15/08) [view article]
I think you've got it Billy: Simple usually has th best chance of success.Politicians have no real interest in alternatives--"Wh... spend a lot of money on something that won't come to fruition while I'm in office and can be reelected on my credits for it??"
The more complicated the formula gets as every divergent interest puts their variables in and deducts what they don't like the less chance it has of working at all.
Simple things like T. Boons windmill freeing up X+Methane from a power plant to run your car and =X- imported oil is a perfect example.
Drilling is a temporary return to past policy and at best will be the buffer we need to gain time for a transition to permanent alternatives.
The last go around (1970's) we squandered the time --there will be no "easy" next time. We can do what has to be done or we can line up behind fools like Pelosi and suffer the consequences. Reply
Bullish Dollar Rally - Fast Money Recap (8/15/08) [view article]
I think the G8 group which met a month or so ago decided to all support the dollar and they are all doing it. The Europeans wanted a weaked Eurodollar for trade reasons and they got it. I think when the Chinese get past the Olympics and get vehicles on the road and factories running again and we start putting oil in the strategic reserve that oil will again go higher. It is sad to hear people say to not drill in Alaska and offshore USA. I know it is not an immediate help for oil prices, but it is sure stupid not to plan ahead for years down the road. It's to drill in California, Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana, Mississipi etc, but NOT in Alaska, Be real. Most of you greenies have never even been there !!! nyka, I was starting to worry about you. It's been over a week since your last comment here, and we just had no idea who of us was losing credibility due to our typographical wrongdoing, or what sins of wordiness we were committing.Glad to see you are back at your post, pointing out the transgressions of our copyediting ways.

Hedge Fund Tracking: Tremblant Capital [view article]
edward lord clarendon.hedge fund 13f filings with the SEC only report LONG holdings. so if they added, they added to their long. if they reduced, they sold off some of their long. they are not required to report short positions.
kind of common knowledge regardless though, that when funds in general talk about "holdings" they are referring to their longs. Reply
Hedge Fund Tracking: Tremblant Capital [view article]
Having only discovered your site recently I must say I am more impressed with each new article such as Hedge Funds portfolio activity. Also noticing Tremblant's portfolio added to anad position tells me they feel as bullish as I on them but expect perhaps a sprd investment soon at these prices for an obvious solid long term play. I like your post- and it was a great marketing tool to be able to include 50+ symbols- great syndication idea.Although I am very pessimistic of 'anonymous' authors- I must say I took a look at your blog and like it very much.
Yes- it is great to follow what the funds are investing in- the increase in Gafisa was interesting -but not suprised by tremblant or atticus taking big V stakes- and look like they picked up some MA on the correction.
Interesting posts- and great link setup.......

I would agree. I think financials are not the way to go given the current circumstances. As far as the biotech, an ever so expanding industry, buy is the keyword.allaboutstocksandfinan... Reply

Costco, Wal-Mart Lead a Consumer Revolution [view article]
If you look around the parking lots and WalMart and Costco, you will notice that most of the customers are not poor. I just got back from WalMart and there were too many Mercedes and BMWs to count, two Bentleys, and several other high end cars in the parking lot. The upper income people are shopping at WalMart, a few middle income, and virtually no poor people. More people are shopping at the swap meets, garage sales, farmers markets and second hand stores than ever. As far as the other stores are concerned, I favor Nordstrom's and JCPenneys, both have excellent sales and good quality merchandise.I buy all of our food from Costco, WalMart and ethnic markets that are cheaper than Costco and WalMart. Sun Hydraulics (SNHY) is trading at $32 which is $10 down from it's 3 month high and their latest earnings report on Aug 5th beat the estimate by 7%. Is is time to revisit SNHY? This seems like a good entry point. ReplyDollar Surge - Fast Money Recap (8/8/08) [view article]
The hubris of CNBC is amazing - "the show welcomed Roger Neshem, the owner of Neshem Farms" - like if he starts growing soybeans, the whole world scheme changes. Just keep in mind if the dollar keeps rallying, which I don't think it will, Potash becomes cheaper to the market and profits increase with the increase of sales for the Canadian seller. Replyng
Dollar Surge - Fast Money Recap (8/8/08) [view article]
This show is very educational especially ADAMI and Finerman who BOTH have picked many winners. Adami is sometimes early but his calls on apa and X were big winners among others and finerman hit apple and cisco at their bottoms Replytz
Middle Class Retail Sales Point to Continued Weakness [view article]
I agree with everything the author reports, but today the market doesn't hear a word. ReplyMiddle Class Retail Sales Point to Continued Weakness [view article]
Love your article as always. Just a personal and not particularly researched comment about unemployment. The Feds approved a 13 week extension in UIB for anyone whose benefits expired before May 2007 and is currently unemployed. It seems to require state by state approval. The extension was approved here in NYS by Gov. Patterson for the week of July 13th I think it was. I looked at an article about the most recent unemployment stats and Alaska and RI approved the extension for the week of July 19th (?). Anyway the point is I think there is far more unemployment out there that will gradually show up in the numbers. I don't know if these 13 week extensions are considered "new" or "ongoing" claims. A 13 week extension can be a lifesaver but no replacement for employment. In any event none of this looks good for retailers or the economy. Also it is laughable that there are still politicians and pundits debating if there will be a recession. ReplyWall Street Breakfast: Must-Know News [view article]
awesome job u guys do, i realy value ur insights,, so,, when ur servers jumble and delay things i get frustrated,, what i am refering to is this.a. this is fridays newsletter,
b. it has thurs news headlines also
c. even more frustrating is that ur economic calender for thurs is part of fridays newsletter,,
d. ur economic calender when it works, is awesome, for example the e.i.a. not only includes the agency and the time to be released, but it also includes, graphs giving a clear picture of what the trend is.
so yeah, it is very frustrating getting it a day late.
