It's Not Easy Being Evergreen - Cramer's Lightning Round (7/9/08) [view article]
i just wonder if anyone here follows cramer.
i used his picks as a contrarian. it always seems to me that he is picking longs at the highs and shorts at the bottom.
2 years back i saved tons of money on CEPH using his advice. when he said to buy when the stock went to 80 i ran to the hills and it took a nose dive.
it also seems to me he is like day trader. one day he says FSLR is huge buy, next day he says CEO sells tons of shares so we don't like FSLR, few weeks go by and again he loves FSLR.
i wonder if someone is calculating his returns - it will be very interesting to see if he's in the green or if he's a consistant loser.

Wal-mart doesn't buy near as much from China, now. They buy from Asia.

Everything is going up that the retailer has to sell. Wal-Mart just doesn't try to make a fortune off of each person that walks through the door. They have every day lower prices.

The Worsening Retail Climate [view article]
Fast forward to July 2008 SKS stock is worth less than half it's 52 week highs. I live right down the street from South Coast Plaza a world class destination mall and the numbers are dismal. This area of Orange County was ground zero of the sub prime debacle. The fake riche' shoppers are gone their losing their houses. Luxury is keeping your job and having money to fill your tank to get to work. California is undergoing a big shake up across all sectors. I'm laughing at all the high paid politically correct upper management now. I'm sure corporate earnings and store numbers suck and their worried about how much longer they'll occupy their cushy offices (Barbie collections and all) before the transfer. Thank god I went back to the small business model I thrive in and the numbers prove it. Talent is never recognized through the layers of political fluff and ass kissing. Reply

Who in the world would listen to Cramer? Haven't you seen enough of his NOTHING? If you want to get rich in the market, listen to him only, to buy everything he DOESN'T LIKE. Make some money for yourself, accumulate WYNN and LVS now. Reply

Cramer is like all these other advisers. He follows the leader. When a stock is up, he recommends it. When it's down he calls a sale. All you have to do is buy Investors Daily Journal for a buck.
Cramer is the type of person who buys high and sells low.

This Bud's for InBev - Fast Money Recap (6/11/08) [view article]
It's amazing how much patriotism is getting in the way of what is obviously a profitable move for BUD and its shareholders. Investors must have missed this lesson: Don't let your emotions get
in the way of your investments.

It places too much sentimental value on the Company.

Instead of holding on to BUD for dear life, check out this article about how to make a profit by using puts and
    calls. www.greenfaucet.com/fu...-...
Pretty interesting stuff, and depending on what you think is going to happen, there is a lot of room for profit here.

A lot safer than holding and hoping. Check it out.

My daughter and I have been shopping at Big Lots for years as we've moved around the country. We have found more fun things there at great prices. I resent anvor's comment re bums etc. She is an NP, her husband is an MD, and I am MS mama living of my investments. Reply

I have been looking at Costco here but it seems to have resistance somewhere between 74.47 and 75. Looks like it could go back to 70 or even 67.85 before going higher. I found the comment about increasing costs of Chinese imports interesting and something to consider. In any event I think it is time for me to get a membership to shop there even if I don't buy the stock. Thanks for the article. Reply

I drive by a Big Lots every Tuesday. The parking lot is nearly empty at 6:30 p.m. Always. Which tell me that perhaps the people who shop there during working hours are the bums and the retired (looking inside store - bums and illegals). Meaning, BigLots appeal is not universal, and may not have an up trend in the wings. Reply

I like COSTCO.. Considered by me the best managed of the big box retailers. Never had a bad experience with COSTCO and I feel certain they will thrive as the US economy worsens. I don't know BIG LOTS, but from the description above they sound as though they are doing very well. No matter how bad things get, people have to eat, wear clothes and buy personal necessities. These big three are geared for this. Reply

Long positions in any retailer are an invitation to capital shrinkage. I've been watching closely and believe a position in Wal Mart will erode less than many others, but erode it will. Reply

As a supplier to Target, Best Buy, and other high end folks, as well as grocers like Kroger, drug chains such as Walgreen, and our core growth area--dollar, Dollar Tree (growing 700% faster in US than Wal-Mart, with more stores), Big Lots, DG, and 99 cent stores, we see things outside of the charts.

    1. They buy great stuff. Our software/audiobooks sell for $1 to $1.99 in these outlets; same stuff at $4.99 or higher in the high end folks. Same for many others.

    2. The Ames, Zayre, Kmart junk of old is gone. The value retailers only buy solid reliable products (of course an error occurs here and there, but my experience is Target and BBY has more of them).

    3. Cost control. N 30; FOB; no returns; clean. That means people price to the penny.

    4. Simple systems: emailed or faxed orders; scan goods on back of truck. No invoices allowed as a rule. No expensive EDI. Clean.

    That's a formula for growth.

Its hard to follow sdrlf. However, I bgt some on the Oslo Ex. I have backed up this purchase with RIG and have done pretty good with it. But much to my surprise Sdrlf has not tracked very well with RIG on the Oslo. Maybe because its structured simarily to other of JF's companies that is to pay div. at the expense of rapid growth or price appreciation. I still believe it is a good long term growth play.
