Thursday, January 24, 5:09 PM More on Cepheid (CPHD) Q4 bottom line beats estimates as results were boosted by stronger sales and a $5.4M year-earlier charge related to the termination of a patent license. The company issues a downbeat outlook going forward however, projecting weaker-than-expected revenue for 2013. It now sees earnings of between $0.41 to $0.46 per shares on revenue of $375M to $385M. Friday, January 4, 12:14 PM Cepheid (CPHD -1.8%) slips on a downgrade to Neutral at Piper Jaffray on concerns that Q4 results and its FY13 outlook could both miss expectations. The company suffered two manufacturing glitches in FY12 that impacted its ability to meet customer cartridge demand in Q3. This created a backlog and the need to put accounts on allocation as management resolved the issue. Piper thinks CPHD may have missed its end of November allocation target. Net losses were $21.3M, or -$0.32 per share, largely due to litigation settlement charges. Results were also affected by a buildup in back orders due to intermittent interruption in availability of certain plastic parts used in the production of its Xpert cartridges, which prevented the fulfillment of all test cartridge orders in the quarter.
