- Monday, May 20, 9:48 AM The U.S. approval of LNG exports wasn’t just a domestic political decision; many U.S. allies are eager for exports to go ahead, particularly the U.K. With dwindling North Sea gas reserves, the U.K. has become more dependent on LNG imports from Qatar, which sent the U.K. its 300th LNG cargo over the weekend. Qatar's dominance could shrink if a utility such as Centrica is able to import U.S. LNG as it hopes. Comment! [Energy, Global & FX]
- Monday, April 15, 3:15 AM Canada’s Suncor Energy (SU) has agreed to sell a package of gas and oil fields to U.K. energy supplier Centrica (CPYYF.PK) and Qatar Petroleum for C$1B ($980M) in cash. The assets are mostly located in southern and central Alberta, and produce about 250M cubic feet of gas equivalent per day, or 15M barrels of oil equivalent per year. (PR) 1 Comment [Energy, M&A]
- Monday, March 25, 5:41 AM Cheniere (LNG) has signed a £10B 20-year deal to provide 1.7M metric tons of gas per year to U.K. energy company Centrica (CPYYF.PK) in the first such deal between a U.S. supplier and a British utility. The deal is subject to Cheniere securing financing and the required regulatory approval, which isn't necessarily such a sure thing given the opposition to gas exports in the U.S. (PR) 2 Comments [Energy, Top Stories]
- Wednesday, February 6, 9:56 AM The real deterrent to nuclear power: Plants burn through copious quantities of cash long before they consume even a pound of uranium. That handicap was laid bare yet again as Duke Energy (DUK) decided to retire its Crystal River plant in Florida, and Centrica pulled out of a new U.K. project. Even in today's cheap-debt world, the economics of sinking billions into a new plant years before it generates revenue doesn't add up. 12 Comments [Energy]
- Monday, January 30, 2012, 11:20 AM ConocoPhillips (COP -1.1%) has agreed to sell its non-operating oil and gas interests in the Statfjord field to Centrica PLC (CPYYY.PK -0.3%), parent company of British Gas, for $223M. Comment! [Energy]
