edward lord clarendon.hedge fund 13f filings with the SEC only report LONG holdings. so if they added, they added to their long. if they reduced, they sold off some of their long. they are not required to report short positions.
kind of common knowledge regardless though, that when funds in general talk about "holdings" they are referring to their longs. Reply

Having only discovered your site recently I must say I am more impressed with each new article such as Hedge Funds portfolio activity. Also noticing Tremblant's portfolio added to anad position tells me they feel as bullish as I on them but expect perhaps a sprd investment soon at these prices for an obvious solid long term play. I like your post- and it was a great marketing tool to be able to include 50+ symbols- great syndication idea.Although I am very pessimistic of 'anonymous' authors- I must say I took a look at your blog and like it very much.
Yes- it is great to follow what the funds are investing in- the increase in Gafisa was interesting -but not suprised by tremblant or atticus taking big V stakes- and look like they picked up some MA on the correction.
Interesting posts- and great link setup.......

Correcting a myth - regarding GM and Toyota Motor (TM).Many believe that GM is no. 1 globally as recently published it outsold Toyota by 1000 or 3000 cars in 2007.
In reality, GM's revenue was $181B in 2007 (01/2007-12/2007) down considerably on YOY. Toyota's revenue was $252B in FY2007 (04/2007-03/2008) up nearly 10%.
It is high time the U.S. auto industry started dealing with the harsh reality before it is too late. Hype and spin can go just so far...

Is this a buy or a sell? ReplyCirrus Logic: Long Road to Recovery [view article]
As I have mentioned in the original post, I made the mistake of not disposing of this stock when I saw its business dynamics changing and than ignoring it for years. When I was doing the year end review of my positions, I finally decided it was time for CRUS to go.Yes, you are right, I should have dumped it much earlier!
Regarding audio being a dying industry, what I meant is that the business of making audio chips is a declining business. This is absolutely the case, because there is a constant push for more integration all the time. Just as read channel designs in disc drives (a business that CRUS exited) transitioned through higher integration to single chip disc drive designs used in high volume, the same way audio components are getting integrated to make combo chips for the mass market. Yes, there are (and perhaps there will always be) some high end systems that will need better quality sound chips and perhaps CRUS could fill that niche and be very profitable in doing so, the same as the last manufacturer of vacuum tubes, but I am not going to count on that happening!
TRID is better positions than CRUS in that their product is much further away from getting integrated away and I do like TRID at $6 even better than at $7. TRID is also much more profitable, so it is a much, much better value today. Reply

OK, you took a tax loss and you did so when Cirrus was trading 40 cents higher than it is now. Congratulations. You had to wait 15 years to sell? WTF !? Cirrus became an audio play years ago, not this year. So now Audio is a "dying industry" ? Please tell me more. People's ears are being replaced with digital cochlear implants at birth? I hadn't heard about that.
Do you know what the EV/Rev measure is on Cirrus here? It is trading as if the company will stop making money and start bleeding.
Granted, that is possible, but is it warranted?
I see you liked TRID at 7.01. Do you like it better at 6.2?
Nobody is perfect but to slam Cirrus when it is already down and to use the same terminology as a recent CNBC segment, smells a bit fishy to me here.
Just my .02 worth. Reply
