Thursday, May 16, 12:16 PM Cisco JV partner EMC (EMC +4.5%) joins the list of companies rallying in response to Cisco's FQ3 beat and guidance. Cisco mentioned on its earnings call integrated hardware solutions such as Vblock (offered by the Cisco/EMC VCE JV) are driving demand for its UCS servers - Cisco's UCS unit saw 77% Y/Y rev. growth. Thursday, April 25, 11:05 AM Light FQ3 guidance isn't stopping F5 (FFIV +5%) from rallying in the wake of its FQ2 report; expectations were depressed thanks to the April 4 warning. On F5's earnings call, management insisted enterprise demand is healthy ahead of a mid-range application delivery controller (ADC) refresh and an update to F5's TMOS OS, even as U.S. telco and federal demand remains weak. Strong momentum was also claimed for F5's firewall and 4G infrastructure offerings. Nomura has upgraded shares to Buy, arguing "the market may be overstating the competitive risks to F5" from Citrix (CTXS - previous). Up in sympathy: RDWR +4%. RVBD +4.8%. Comment! Friday, February 22, 2:58 PM Pac Crest is showing rivals VMware (VMW +1.2%) and Citrix (CTXS +1.6%) some love: the firm argues VMware's Horizon PC virtualization/mobile management suite will be a 2013 growth driver, and that Citrix can beat 2013 estimates with the help of strong enterprise mobility spending. VMware just announced the Q1 availability of Horizon, which competes with Citrix's XenDesktop. Citrix, meanwhile, just announced a mobile software bundle that fuses Zenprise's device management software with its CloudGateway platform for remote mobile app/data access. Comment! [Tech]

New products include: 1) A blade server for PC virtualization that (relying on software from CTXS and VMW, and NVDA's Quadro GPUs) supports 4x as many virtual desktops as the prior-gen model. 2) A blade server/Ethernet swtich platform that (with the help of MLNX ASICs) that significantly increases available bandwidth. 3) A mid-range storage system that combines technology from 3PAR with integrated backup/recovery. All 3 companies are nominally supporters of the OpenStack cloud infrastructure platform, which Rackspace helped create and strongly supports, though VMware is more focused on its rival vCloud platform and Citrix has its differences as well. 1 Comment [Tech, On the Move]
