- Tuesday, May 21, 11:06 AM Shares of Carnival (CCL, CUK) fall 6.8% following the company's guidance cut and a dispiriting wave of analyst downgrades. Though execs with the cruise line operator gave a spirited pitch for a turnaround during the Q1 earnings call (transcript), increased promotional activity continues to take a heavy toll on the company's sales and profits. [On the Move] - Friday, February 15, 5:49 AM Carnival Corp's (CCL) Carnival Triumph cruise liner limped into port last night with the help of tugboats four days after an engine-room fire knocked out the ship's power, leaving it stricken in the Gulf of Mexico. Talk of overflowing toilets and the vessel turning into a giant Petri dish has been a PR nightmare for Carnival, although the impact on its finances is seen as limited, as are its legal liabilities. Comment! [Consumer]
- Monday, February 11, 3:49 AM Carnival Cruise Lines' (CCL) Carnival Triumph is to be towed to the port of Progreso in Mexico after a fire in the ship's engine room caused it to become adrift 150 miles off the country's Yucatan peninsula. None of the 3,143 guests, nor the 1,086 crew, were hurt in the accident. Carnival has cancelled the Triumph's next two cruises. It's just over a year since the company's Costa Concordia capsized in Italy, killed 32 people. 1 Comment [Consumer]
