A Better Place: Almost everything you said is utter nonsense. If you voted for Bush you are partly responsible for the current Bush Recession. Reply

"Lechleiter pointed out that the company's application for approval of the drug - if you printed it - would stack nearly as high as the Empire State Building. As a result, the FDA has a lot of data to comb through."

Yup. And the FDA is full of CYA Bush-cronies. And our politicians (both parties) HATE any drug that costs more than free or causes one guy in Mogolia to get the hiccups. Small wonder Big Pharma is doing so poorly.

First of all, I am not a Democrat and will not vote for a Democrat.
I think most investors had a strong feeling that between now and election time, the Republicans would apply extreme pressure anywhere and in anyway they could to boost the market. They are having some success it seems. However, they can do the most in controlling commodity prices. Getting them down as we see happening now. Low and high estimates as needed to influence commodity prices, along with personal pressures applied to those in most control of the targeted commodities. No telling how low we will see some go in the near, but hold on after 2008.

I realize that IBM is not in the S&P, but it is a Dow component and near its 5 year high. It has had a great run. Reply

I would not be surprised to see Covance buy WX sometime in the future, especially at this PPS. Reply

Sorry, there Asian and Europe divisions pale in comparison compared to Nike.

Give them another 5 years... yes. But if you think they hold a candle to Nike or Adidas overseas...

    p.s. Go Man U.

Im sorry but someone has to comment to the oblivious remark made about Under Armour being a US subprime brand. Do you even research companies that you comment on? After watching the UEFA championsleague on ESPN these past couple of weeks, Ive noticed players on Turkish, French, English and Spanish club teams rocking the UA cold and warm gear. Now if thats US Subprime than I obviously dont know jack! The fact of the matter is, with UA's IPO nearing its 3 year anniversary being only 12 years old, there are so many uncharted waters the company has not even ventured into to expand growth, which is why we invest, to take part of that growth.
Next time do some research buddy! Here is an exact quote pulled off of the company's fact sheet on its website, " We sell our products to a MAJORITY of the teams in the NFL and MLB and soccer teams in the ENGLISH PREMIER LEAGUE. We also sell our products directly to approximately 700 DIVISION I MENS and WOMENS COLLEGIATE ATHLETIC TEAMS..."
With all these contracts in play and a new shoeline for all sports hitting the market, expect major growths in revenues! Need I say more?

Thanks Mark, good info. I used to own CRL (have you thought about following them?) At the time, I picked them over CVD (Maybe it is my home town bias?) and definitely over PPDI (less attractive numbers) and Parexel (personal distaste). Anyway, when they just weren't making me any money, I moved to ICLR because I wanted the same play (selling to biotechs) but with overseas exposure. Based on all this, even though all 4 numbers in your article show loss, I was pleased to see ICLR best. Long term? Definitely up. Reply

Secular as opposed to cyclical... Sorry you abhor "Wall Street drivel". Thanks for your productive comments, though.

The industry had only one real driver when the companies started going public inthe late 90s - outsourcing by Big Pharma. Things have changed, including a very big fundamental change in the drug industry (patent expirations, which have become almost an immediate loss of profits due to PBMs, and lack of new blockbusters, the growth in biotech and the other one that I believe I emphasized, the increase concern over safety that is leading to more post-marketing studies.

Secular growth drivers???? As opposed to what? Clerical growth drivers?

The only meaning of secular which could possible apply here is "occrring once in a century." I doubt that is the case with this investment opportunity. In the future, cut out the Wall Street drivel and just state your position.
