- Friday, July 27, 2012, 9:06 AM More on Chevron's (CVX) Q2: Total production fell 2.6%. Benchmark oil prices fell ~9%. Upstream production business posted an 18% profit drop to $5.6B, citing normal field declines and the shut-in of the Frade Field in Brazil. Downstream refining business profit jumped 80% to $1.88B, reflecting the sale of South Korean assets and higher margins on gasoline and other fuels. Comment! [Energy, Earnings]
- Friday, July 27, 2012, 8:33 AM Chevron (CVX): Q2 EPS of $3.66 beats by $0.42. Revenue of $62.6B (-9.1% Y/Y) misses by $6B. (PR) 1 Comment [Earnings, Energy]

- Wednesday, July 25, 2012, 7:08 PM Chevron (CVX) declares $0.90/share quarterly dividend, in line with previous. Forward yield 3.39%. For shareholders of record Aug 17. Payable Sep 10. Ex-div date Aug 15. (PR) Comment! [Dividends]
- Tuesday, July 24, 2012, 8:43 AM Chevron (CVX) will be barred from contracts in middle and southern Iraq because last week it bought stakes in two oil exploration blocks in the Kurdish region of the country, Iraq's oil ministry statement announces. ExxonMobil received similar treatment from Iraq's government last year. 4 Comments [Energy]
- Monday, July 23, 2012, 11:04 AM Chevron (CVX -2%) says its Pontus-1 exploration well in the Greater Gorgon area off the coast of western Australia encountered 97 feet of net gas pay: "The Pontus-1 discovery again highlights Chevron's exploration success as we continue building a significant natural gas position in Western Australia to supply Australia and the Asia-Pacific region." Comment! [Energy, On the Move]
- Thursday, July 19, 2012, 3:44 PM Brazil's oil regulator reportedly says the fracture that caused the Frade spill occurred in rock below the reinforced portion of Chevron's (CVX +0.9%) well, and the company should have reinforced more of the well given conditions of the drilling project. The spill report also says the amount of oil leaked into the ocean totaled 3,700 barrels. 3 Comments [Energy]
- Thursday, July 19, 2012, 2:49 PM Iraq's prime minister says Pres. Obama sent a letter backing his concerns over ExxonMobil's (XOM) oil deal with the Kurdistan region, and other sources say the administration is discouraging moves into the region. The PM's statement is issued as Chevron (CVX) confirms its purchase of 80% of two blocks in Kurdistan, a move sure to infuriate the central Iraqi government. 11 Comments [Energy]
- Thursday, July 19, 2012, 2:33 PM Sierra Leone provisionally awards contracts to 11 companies, including Noble Energy (NE), Chevron (CVX) and Kosmos (KOS), to explore for oil in eight offshore blocks. Oil exploration has been booming in West Africa following Tullow Oil's discovery of the Jubilee field in Ghana, but it is still unclear whether nearby Sierra Leone has commercial quantities. 1 Comment [Energy]
- Thursday, July 19, 2012, 8:26 AM Chevron (CVX) confirms its purchase of 80% of two blocks in Iraq's Kurdistan, where it see "considerable promise" despite active diplomatic disputes over the area. Big oil companies are increasingly drawn to the region, as contracts to re-develop old oil fields and explore for new ones in southern Iraq turn out to be less attractive than anticipated. Comment! [Energy]
- Thursday, July 19, 2012, 3:28 AM Venezuelan state oil company PDVSA reached an agreement with Chevron (CVX) yesterday to secure $2B in financing to boost oil production at Petroboscan, the JV between the two companies. Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez had threatened to cancel the permit for several energy JVs, including this one, unless production was raised. 1 Comment [Energy, Global & FX]
- Wednesday, July 18, 2012, 2:18 PM Chevron (CVX +0.2%) reportedly is buying an 80% interest in the Sarta and Rovi blocks in Iraq's Kurdistan region from India's Reliance Industries, as it follows ExxonMobil into the region. The move appears to be a shift by CVX, which was not involved in contracts awarded in Iraq's four licensing rounds. Comment! [Energy]
- Tuesday, July 17, 2012, 3:10 PM Expanding on remarks made yesterday, Brazil's oil regulator says Chevron (CVX +0.4%) soon will be allowed to resume production at its well off the coast of Rio de Janeiro that had been shut down due to an oil spill, giving no indication when production would resume other than saying it would be soon. Comment! [Energy]
- Monday, July 16, 2012, 6:05 PM Brazil's National Petroleum Agency says it's unlikely to fine Chevron (CVX) more than 50M reais ($24.5M) for its role in a November oil spill off Brazil's coast; the agency is expected to release its report on the incident later this week. CVX and Transocean (RIG) face civil and criminal lawsuits for their roles in the incident at the CVX-operated Frade offshore oil field. 4 Comments [Energy]
- Monday, July 16, 2012, 9:59 AM Exxon Mobil (XOM -0.7%) is downgraded to Hold from Buy at Deutsche Bank, which also favors Chevron (CVX +0.2%) as its top mega-cap energy play. "Volumes are guided to be weak in 2012 and likely to underperform with our forecast showing down 4% Y/Y, even having recovered from Q1’s 6% fall," the firm writes, estimating Q/Q earnings to come in flat. 1 Comment [Energy, Quick Ideas]

Volumes lower than normal, except for CVX and a few others. AAPL volume also lower. Holiday week equals exaggerated swings. - View all 0 replies

Bruce Whitaker: None are that bad. Oil spill is at sea and minor. Tanker load is probably insured. CVX cash flow is enormous.

CVX and COP seem ready to rally (intraday at least). Significant retracements recently. Decent support where they are. - View all 2 replies
