High Incarceration Rate Weighing On U.S. Economy, with Upside for Corrections Corp. [view article]
Making prisoners pay for their own incarceration seems vaguely remeniscent of the labor camps of WWII. There's no question that profiling is a self fulfilling prophesy and that incarceration rates shall only continue rising in America. Eventually, our ultra conservative society (compared to the rest of the world) will resort to more harsh treatment of these prisoners to make them 'pay their way'.That said, the economically rational mind would buy CXW. Morality has nothing to do with making money. As messed up as I think our society is becoming - and I really think this is messed up - the pursuit of profit dictates that CXWs business plan is a good one. Reply

Thank you for identifying this group. I'll sell any fund that I own that holds any of these corporations. I'll sell the fund just as I did FMILX & FCPGX. ReplyCurve

I am shocked to have discovered that I own CXW in Fidelity's Small Cap Growth fund. I'm selling that fund today and will look for a moral choice (as far as is possible) to include in my portfolio. Of all the disgusting stocks to own, with this one I finally hit the red line. FCPGX, I jettison you today! ReplyJacome

pinged by reader today, we maintain buy rating on CXW: As the report tried to suggest, the stock has remained range bound and $25 is a good support level. Best entry point is still the lower 20s. ReplyHigh Incarceration Rate Weighing On U.S. Economy, with Upside for Corrections Corp. [view article]
truthteller, not only are you bigoted and ignorant, but incredibly naive as well. you're a disgusting piece of racist garbage, and the essence of what is wrong with this country. the fact of the matter in this country is that blacks and hispanics are in prison in higher rates because they are targeted specifically by law enforcement and politicians. 2/3 of crack users are white, but nearly 80% of those imprisoned for crack cocaine are black. crack, which many consider to be a black drug, carries a literally 100 times more heavy penalty than powder coke, a white drug. the problem is not that blacks and hispanics are criminal. that is a pathetically ignorant assumption to make. that is the same kind of thinking that led to the segregationist-era south. you should wake up, craawl out from that rock you've apparently been living under since the middle of the 19th century, and start to focus on the real problem. Ignorant, asinine people who boldly claim "Facts" when they have no idea what they're talking about. Fact. ReplyHigh Incarceration Rate Weighing On U.S. Economy, with Upside for Corrections Corp. Yep, guess it does pays to designate certain groups for prison (i.e, minorities/under-educa... to serve as below-market labor while enriching the companies that supply the prisons.... of course the same theory applied to warehousing people in poverty and in housing projects located "across the tracks," and that resulted in so much good....NOT!!!! It's not PC to say this, of course, but it's grossly unfair to compare Japan and Germany's homogeneous populations with that of the US. Add 10-15% black and 10-15% hispanic minorities, and they'd need to build a lot more prisons, too. Fact. ReplyHigh Incarceration Rate Weighing On U.S. Economy, with Upside for Corrections Corp. What a great source of labor to offset some of the incarceration costs. Remember, around 35% of our state and federal prison population are illegal immigrants - tighten up the boarders and the prison population will decline. hell, the seeds of a solution to the housing crisis are here.....let em all out of jail and give them no money down, subsidized "starter" loans to buy up all those foreclosed homes. we could use he money saved on incarceration to help with the subsidy.
problem solved. let me know if i can help with anything else. Reply

Corrections Corp. Not Executing - Cramer's Lightning Round (4/25/08) [view article]
Cramer is, admittedly so, nutty as a fruit cake! He protesteth too much about his blind trust, which isn't blind, but run by him. It's called a charitable trust, by him. Anyway, the big news with ENER is that they have a patent on increasing the manufacturing speed of their photovoltaic thin film line by 10. This reduces cost to a point that they become as cheap as fossil fuels. That's a WOW! Replyn
Corrections Corp. Not Executing - Cramer's Lightning Round (4/25/08) [view article]
Cramer has gone from a previous position on ENER where he felt they were an "inexpensive solar play and I would stick with that" to "You are barking up the wrong solar play. I am recommending First Solar."What’s up with the devotion to First Solar? Their PE is astronomical; their upside from here is difficult to see meeting expectations. They may be a well run company but they will have to execute flawlessly from here on out not to trip and drop in valuation.
Cramer does not explain his recommendation for First Solar or the reason behind his reason for ignoring ENER almost completely. It is interesting to note that when asked about ENER most recently he does not speak about ENER, only about his devotion to his recommendation for First Solar.
There is something up here that is very odd, not about ENER but about Cramer. He worships First Solar as his only viable solar recommendation with no explanation offered. When he speaks of other sector stocks he often offers some reasons for his preferences, likes and dislikes. However, when it comes to Solar and ENER he says NOTHING AT ALL, only hits the replay button and once again recommends First Solar. He almost appears as though he is getting annoyed by those asking about ENER. What’s up with that?
Someone else on this board noted the same impression recently when commenting about Cramer being asked about ENER on Mad Money.
As I understand it Cramer claims to have his investments in a blind trust to avoid conflict of interest. So whose interests are served by his solar sector devotion to First Solar, no discussion of substance offered, no secondary solar sector plays even worthy of discussion. Whose interests indeed?
The solar sector is in its infancy, it is hard to imagine there are not at least 2 or 3 firms worthy of an investment recommendation. Contrary to what Cramer would have his audience and advertisers believe, he does not have a crystal ball and cannot possibly know who the long term success stories will be for certain. Yet he only recommends First Solar. One of the most expensive plays in the solar sector. His singular devotion has an almost religious quality when repeated over and over with no justification, as such he is asking for his audience to have faith, just like a prophet.
Something is really odd about this, anyone have any ideas. Could it be he is simply ignorant about the specifics of solar sector development and following the crowd himself? Could he be getting religion because some of his investment buddies are heavily positioned in First Solar?
Anyone have an idea how to interpret the prophet Jim Cramer’s church of First Solar?
