- Friday, March 22, 5:28 AM As expected, Nevada has granted 888 Holdings (EIHDF.PK) a gambling license to operate in the state, making the U.K.-listed company the first online gaming firm to receive a permit in the U.S. The move could have repercussions for Caesars Entertainment (CZR) and WMS Industries (WMS) - both of which have a partnership with 888 - Century Casinos (CNTY), Zynga (ZNGA), International Game Technology (IGT) and others. 5 Comments [Consumer]
- Monday, March 18, 7:03 AM New Jersey will let casinos in Atlantic City offer betting on fantasy sports. A new regulation will go into effect on April 22 in time for the upcoming baseball season. 1 Comment [Consumer]
- Monday, March 11, 12:43 PM Casino stocks trade higher today with news on revenue from Macau looking good, but progress on an online poker bill in the U.S. looking even more promising. Analysts think the race between Nevada and New Jersey to see online poker within their state borders a reality increases the odds of a federal online bill getting pushed through Congress after previous attempts faltered. Advancers: Boyd Gaming +3.3%, Las Vegas Sands +2.6%, MGM Resorts +1.6%, Wynn Resorts (WYNN) +1.1%, Pinnacle +3.2%, Caesars Entertainment (CZR) +1.6%. 2 Comments [Consumer, On the Move]
- Friday, March 8, 10:08 AM Revenue at Las Vegas Strip casinos fell 18.7% Y/Y in January after rising 13.5% in December. Though the sector sees a lot of monthly volatility, the +30 percentage swing is raising some eyebrows. The timing of the Chinese New Year could be a factor due to the intense high-stakes baccarat play it brings in, but revenue also slipped in areas outside of Vegas indicating some underlying weakness. Vegas-oriented casinos stocks (LVS, MGM, CZR, WYNN) are underperforming regional players (BYD, ASCA, CNTY) and Macau-focused Melco Crown (MPEL +1.8%) for the day. 1 Comment [Consumer, On the Move]
- Thursday, March 7, 1:03 PM 888 Holdings of Gibraltar and Treasure Island are the latest gaming firms to take steps toward setting up an online poker platform in Nevada. The firms say they will join with WMS Industries (WMS +0.3%) and Caesars Entertainment (CZR +2.4%) to set up a World Series of Poker website for Caesars. In order to gain approval from the state's gaming board, the group needs to convince the regulators that it can detect out-of-state users or collusion between players. 1 Comment [Consumer]
- Wednesday, March 6, 2:12 PM Recent data on gambling revenue in Pennsylvania highlights the potential danger of saturation within the gaming industry. With more East Coast casinos popping up, PA gaming revenue has now fallen off three straight months including a double-digit dip in February. Caesars Entertainment (CZR -0.2%), Penn National Gaming (PENN -0.8%), and Las Vegas Sands (LVS +2.8%) are among the gaming companies with operations in the state. 1 Comment [Consumer]
- Tuesday, March 5, 7:30 AM Is the tide turning in Las Vegas? A new announcement on plans by The Genting Group to build a mega-resort on the Strip marks the first large-scale project to launch in years. The company says it spend $7B to build a massive Asian-themed resort on land Boyd Gaming originally had planned for another project. 2 Comments [Consumer]
- Thursday, February 28, 11:30 AM The key to rapid growth for online gambling will be strategic alliances between states which mutually benefit both sides of the border. What to expect: New Jersey is expected to cozy up to Illinois with two companies - Boyd Entertainment (BYD +0.6%) and Caesars Entertainment (CZR +0.7%) - sharing a physical presence in both states while a California-Nevada alliance is a natural fit with California's huge population a potential online gold rush for Vegas-based casino companies such as Las Vegas Sands (LVS +2.5%), Wynn Resorts (WYNN +0.4%), and MGM Resorts (MGM +1%). 3 Comments [Consumer]
- Tuesday, February 26, 9:05 AM Shares of Caesars Entertainment (CZR) fall 6.5% premarket after the company misses revenue estimates with its Q4 report. Though the larger-than-forecast loss in Atlantic City stole the show, the company did see its Las Vegas properties put in a solid quarter. In its earnings call (transcript), online gambling was a major focus with execs saying the company is well-positioned to take significant market share when the frontier opens up. Comment! [Consumer, On the Move]
- Monday, February 25, 8:00 PM More on Caesars Entertainment (CZR): Q4 misses revenue projections as total sales declined by 4.3% Y/Y. Net losses widened as revenue was hit by impairment charges and the negative impact of superstorm Sandy. The company said the storm reduced its revenue by about $40M to $45M because its Atlantic City properties were closed for five days and its facility in Philadelphia was closed for two days. Earlier estimates had placed the hit between $30 to $35M. Shares -7.5% AH. Comment! [Earnings, On the Move, Consumer]

After-hours top losers: WETF -8%. SCLN -5%. MMSI -4%. ANF -3%. CHTR -3%. Comment! [On the Move] - Friday, February 22, 3:30 PM What to expect from online gambling: 1) Online poker will precede other forms of online gambling as the game of skill is viewed as easier to garner approval. Wynn Resorts (WYNN), MGM Resorts (MGM), and Caesars (CZR) have been planning aggressively for this day, but Las Vegas Sands (LVS) has been stuck in neutral. 2) State bill 114 gives Nevada the power to negotiate with other states to offer online gambling services. 3) The Nevada Game Board says it has 20 pending applications from operators and equipment manufacturers. Look for tech companies (previous: Zynga) to be in the mix. 4) Firms tied to the 2006-2011 illegal online gaming market are banned, indicating some of the strongest poker websites may be on the outside looking in. 10 Comments [Consumer]
