- Tuesday, April 30, 6:57 AM The upgrades fly in for Deutsche Bank (DB) after it announced a capital raise yesterday and reported better-than-expected Q1 results. It's dilutive yes, but will also put the bank's balance sheet in a much stronger position. We've got Santander, RBC Capital, Nomura, JPMorgan, and Credit Suisse and the day's still young. Shares +5.7% premarket after yesterday's 3.7% gain. The Dax (EWG) is the only market in Europe in the green, +0.5%. Comment! [Financials, On the Move]
- Monday, April 29, 12:45 PM More on Deutsche Bank (DB +0.3%): The capital raise news comes as the bank reports Q1 EPS of €1.71 on revenues of €9.4B. Cost cutting: Noninterest expense of €6.6B down 5% Y/Y. Current Basel 3 Tier 1 capital ratio of 8.8% would be hiked to about 9.5% after the €2.8B share sale. Giving in? Three months ago, new co-CEO Anshu Jain pledged no share issuance. "We don't think it's in our shareholders best interest for us to issue capital given our discount to book value." Shares are 16% lower today than at that point. Comment! [Financials, On the Move]
- Monday, April 29, 12:32 PM Deutsche Bank (DB -1.6%) gives in, hatching plans to raise capital by issuing €2.8B in shares, and potentially another €2B of subordinated debt over the next year. (PR) 1 Comment [Financials, Breaking News, On the Move]
- Monday, March 18, 5:10 AM European bank shares slide following news of the levy on deposits in Cyprus, which has prompted concerns of a run on banks elsewhere in the eurozone. The Stoxx Europe 600 Banks index -2.1%. In Madrid, BBVA -3.7%; in Milan, Banca Popolare di Milano -3.9%, Intesa Sanpaolo -3.3%, Mediobanca -4.6%, Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena -3.8%. In Paris, SocGen -4.2%, Credit Agricole -2.9%, BNP Paribas -3.3%. In Frankfurt, Deutsche Bank (DB) -2.8%. Comment! [Financials, Top Stories, Global & FX, On the Move]

[On the Move] - Friday, March 1, 8:32 AM Deutsche Bank (DB) dives 6.1% premarket as Goldman cuts it to Sell, thanks to new capital rules which could force the bank to transfer $13B to its U.S. unit. The move would deplete Deutsche's non-U.S. capital, increasing the need for a capital raise. "The impact on Deutsche Bank's profit could be substantial." Comment! [Financials, On the Move]
- Monday, January 7, 4:04 AM Credit Agricole (CRARF.PK) leads major European banks higher, rising 4.7% after regulators ease Basel liquidity rules, followed by Deutsche Bank (DB) +4.3%, Unicredit (UNCFY.OB) +4.3% and Barclays (BCS) +3.7%. Also, SocGen (SCGLF.PK) +3.4%, HSBC (HBC) +0.75%, Lloyds (LYG) +1.9%, Santander (SAN) +2%, RBS (RBS) +1.5%, UBS (UBS) +2% and Credit Suisse (CS) +3.4%. Italy's Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena (BMDPY.PK) +15%. Comment! [Financials, On the Move, Top Stories]
- Thursday, December 13, 2012, 7:59 AM Deutsche Bank (DB) sees a "significant negative impact" on Q4 earnings from various items, including restructuring costs and valuation adjustments to certain assets. The company also sets up its bad bank (called the "Non-core operations unit"), targeting €122B of assets for it. Shares -2% premarket. (PR) Comment! [Financials, On the Move]

BIDU -5%. 1 Comment [On the Move] - Tuesday, September 11, 2012, 7:08 AM Deutsche Bank's co-CEOs unveil their plans to deliver return to shareholders in a lousy macro environment for investment banking, promising €4.5B in annual savings by 2015 - greater than the €3B floated 2 months ago. No report is made on whether the two will take down bank leverage. It's TBTF on steroids in Germany, where DB's assets exceed Tier 1 capital by more than 40X. Shares +2.4% premarket. Comment! [On the Move] - Friday, July 20, 2012, 12:29 PM It's a "risk off" day for European financials (EUFN -3.4%), after Spain's expected bank bailout approval is accompanied by a weak GDP forecast. Unsurprisingly, Spanish banks are the biggest losers: SAN -7.7%. BBVA -8.4%. U.S. banks are only doing better by comparison (XLF -1.3%). 8 Comments [Financials, On the Move]

DB has been rallying with the market. But it's exposed heavily to PIIGS debts. Heavily involved in the LIBOR scandal. Watch it, then short. - View all 8 replies

David White: Supposed to be 4%-13% of one year's income (what I read -- always changeable). Won't decimate the stock, but non-negligible. -
