    Gevo (GEVO +7.9%) confirms a judgment of non-infringement will be entered as Butamax Advanced Biofuels (DD, BP) acknowledges Gevo does not infringe Butamax's asserted patents following winning an important court ruling earlier this week; as a result, the trial scheduled for April will no longer take place.

    Gevo (GEVO) +3.4% AH after winning a federal court ruling that it doesn’t infringe a Butamax Advanced Biofuels (DD, BP) patent for a method to commercially produce isobutanol. Butamax had sued Gevo in 2011 alleging misuse of technology for genetically engineered microorganisms used to produce biofuels.

    DuPont (DD +0.4%) is facing slimmer margins in its production of titanium-dioxide pigment as prices in the $16.3B market are poised for the first two-year drop in a decade because of oversupply and weak demand. DD, Huntsman (HUN) and other TiO2 producers may not see recovery as soon as they expected amid a selloff of inventories 50% higher than normal.

    DuPont (DD) says it is expanding its pipeline of new products under development to include a biotech wheat that would be more resistant to disease, remain hardy in drought conditions and potentially boost yields 15%-20%. Corn remains the company's key crop but it sees wheat as a good long-term bet, says the VP for crop genetics R&D.

    DuPont (DD) obtains preliminary approval to settle class action claims that its Imprelis herbicide killed thousands of trees. DuPont will pay property owners to remove and replace damaged trees and cover other losses. Imprelis was introduced in 2010 to control weeds in recreational areas such as golf courses and commercial properties such as sod farms.

    DuPont (DD) says it's completed the sale of its performance coatings business for $4.9B in cash and the assumption of certain liabilities to The Carlyle Group (CG). DD plans to use the proceeds from the sale to shore up its balance sheet and fund a $1B stock buyback program during the first half of 2013.

    DuPont (DD -0.4%) is putting its cyanide business on the block and has hired Morgan Stanley to advise on a potential sale, Reuters reports. The unit, which sells the chemical for use in gold mining, could be worth more than $700M. DD is under pressure to focus more on its food and ag products; it sold its performance coatings unit last August to Carlyle Group for $4.9B.

    DuPont (DD +1.5%) expects 2013 EPS to climb to $3.85-$4.05 on sales of $36B but foresees a "modest decline” in profit during Q1-Q2, CFO Nicholas Fanandakis says. Margins in performance chemicals may narrow by 7-9 percentage points in 2013; without that unit, earnings would rise in the "high teens." Look for a couple of soft quarters before things firm up, an Edward Jones analyst says.
