- Monday, December 3, 2012, 8:15 AM DELL pops 5.5% premarket after Goldman's weekend 2-notch upgrade of the stock to Buy from Sell, along with a hike in the price target to $13 from $9. Bad news on the PC front is baked in, says Goldman, and the strong balance sheet should provide downside support and maybe set the stage for an LBO or recapitalization. Comment! [Tech, On the Move, Quick Ideas]
- Tuesday, November 20, 2012, 8:05 AM For whom H-P's (HPQ) FQ4 results toll: Dell (DELL) -1.9% premarket, Intel (INTC) -1.6%, AMD -1%. H-P reported a 14% Y/Y drop in PC revenue and 12% drops in both desktop and notebook shipments. The drop in commercial PC revenue (13%) was nearly as bad as the drop in consumer PC revenue (16%). 2 Comments [Tech, On the Move]

After-hours top gainers, as of 5:15 p.m.: KKD +10.8%. LTRE +7.1%. GLUU +4.3%. QIHU +4.2%. RYL +3.4%.
After-hours top losers: MNTA -7.7%. MMLP -4.7%. JACK -4.7%. OVTI -4.1%. DELL -3.6%. Comment! [On the Move] - Friday, November 16, 2012, 10:38 AM Down just a bit premarket, Dell (DELL -6.4%) has plunged to levels last seen during the financial crisis as the Street digests the ugly PC sales data in its FQ3 report. Aside from the PC industry's problems, many are concerned over whether Dell's PC ops simply aren't cost-competitive with those of Lenovo and other Asian rivals, and whether their declining scale will make them even less so. Will the company heed calls for a major strategy change? HPQ -3.1%. (Gale Technologies) (transcript) 2 Comments [Tech, On the Move]
- Wednesday, November 14, 2012, 12:05 PM Dell (DELL +2.2%) is seeing a much-needed rally after Pac Crest argues the company's enterprise hardware/software/services ops, which now make up over half of gross profit, will offset PC weakness, and that downside is limited. Dell only trades around 4x EPS after backing out net cash, but revenue is steadily declining and earnings are being propped up by huge buybacks. FQ3 results arrive tomorrow. Comment! [Tech, On the Move, Quick Ideas]
- Thursday, October 25, 2012, 10:16 AM Logitech (LOGI -10.5%) becomes the latest PC-centric name to fall after a weak earnings report. In addition to missing FQ2 estimates, the company warned its fiscal 2H sales and operating income will be down Y/Y. FQ2 OEM sales fell 27% Y/Y (weaker keyboard/mouse sales), echoing Microsoft's huge Windows sales drop, while retail sales fell 5%. Audio sales -14%, Video -17%, Harmony remote sales -14%, with units falling 31%. Gross margin was up 500 bps Q/Q and 210 bps Y/Y. (prepared remarks, slides - PDF) Comment! [Tech, Earnings, On the Move]
- Wednesday, October 17, 2012, 11:16 AM Intel (INTC -2.7%) remains lower following its Q3 report, which was accompanied by soft guidance and cautious earnings call remarks (I, II) about demand and inventories. Dell (DELL -1.6%) and Nvidia (NVDA -1.7%) are off, but most other PC industry names are near breakeven. There's plenty of downbeat sell-side commentary: Goldman predicts margins will fall further in 1H13, and Nomura thinks Intel's declining cash balance (now at $3.4B) will limit stock buybacks. Bulls are predicting Windows 8, for which expectations have fallen considerably, will provide a lift. 1 Comment [Tech, On the Move, Quick Ideas]
- Tuesday, October 9, 2012, 2:01 PM Lexmark (LXK -5.2%) and Dell (DELL -2.6%) underperform after Citi starts each company at Sell as part of a broader IT hardware coverage launch. Citi is worried about the impact of the bring-your-own-device trend (favors Macs over Windows systems) on Dell, which is near multi-year lows once again. Comment! [Tech, On the Move]
- Wednesday, October 3, 2012, 12:52 PM Dell (DELL -1.7%) and AMD (AMD -3.1%) slump as investors mull the implications of H-P's analyst day commentary and guidance. The companies, who have been hit hard by worries about tepid PC demand, are both making new multi-year lows. 3 Comments [Tech, On the Move]
- Tuesday, September 25, 2012, 6:06 PM Some more S&P MidCap 400 changes: InterDigital (IDCC) will replace Quest Software (QSFT) as of the Sep. 28 close, and Genesee & Wyoming (GWR) will replace Collective Brands (PSS) as of the Oct. 1 close. Quest shareholders just approved the company's $28/share acquisition by Dell. IDCC +3.2% AH. Comment! [Tech, On the Move, Consumer]
- Friday, September 21, 2012, 2:25 PM Though Seagate (STX +2.6%) and Western Digital (WDC +2.8%) are up following the former's analyst day guidance, hard drive controller chip suppliers LSI (LSI -1.1%) and Marvell (MRVL -1.8%) have ticked lower. That's a sign the Street is less pleased with Seagate's unit shipment guidance than it is with its pricing and margin commentary. The shipment guidance arguably has negative implications for PC sales. 1 Comment [Tech, On the Move]
- Friday, September 7, 2012, 10:12 AM Intel's (INTC -2.8%) warning is hurting other chip stocks with strong PC exposure: AMD -3.4%. NVDA -4.5%. MU -4.6%. H-P (HPQ -1.4%), Microsoft (MSFT -1.3%), Seagate (STX -1.6%), and Western Digital (WDC -1.4%) are off moderately, though Dell (DELL +0.9%) is higher after declaring its first dividend. Analysts had been slashing estimates (I, II, III) for Intel ahead of the warning thanks to a torrent of negative PC data - that seems to be limiting the damage. 4 Comments [Tech, On the Move]
- Thursday, August 23, 2012, 9:54 AM Dell (DELL -2.3%) is making new multi-year lows in response to HP's FQ3 report, adding to the bludgeoning the company saw yesterday due to its own earnings report. Other PC-related names are also lower: INTC -1.7%. MSFT -1.3%. AMD -2.2%. The consumer and enterprise receptions to Windows 8, which has received very mixed (I, II) initial reviews, are now more important than ever. 31 Comments [Tech, On the Move]
- Wednesday, August 22, 2012, 10:20 AM Dell (DELL -6.5%) is receiving plenty of negative commentary after a Q2 revenue miss and guidance cut bring shares near their 52-week low. "Where do we find the lost revenues and profits from the PC world? Are they in Washington? Greece? Cupertino?," Needham rhetorically asks, while arguing Windows 8's success is now critical. Goldman (Sell) notes EPS wouldn't have beaten estimates if not for one-time tax and margin benefits. HPQ -2%. INTC -1.1%. AMD -2%. (more) (transcript) 1 Comment [Tech, On the Move, Quick Ideas]
-
Wednesday, August 22, 2012, 9:10 AM
Premarket gainers: SRZ +59%. BKD +9%. QIHU +9%. WSM +9%. CHS +8%. AEO +6%. TOL +5%. ALXA +5%.
Losers: PPHM -7%. EXPR -7%. CLWR -6%. DELL -6%. Comment! [On the Move] - Tuesday, August 21, 2012, 4:42 PM H-P (HPQ), which reports tomorrow, is down 2% AH in response to Dell's (DELL) revenue miss and bleak guidance. Dell's weak PC sales figures have to be especially worrisome, especially since they follow a revenue miss from Acer. Lenovo posted better results recently, but it has been gaining share for a while. Intel (INTC) and AMD are off slightly. 1 Comment [Tech, On the Move]

xcobrastripesx: I understand that but moving in a .02 range for days on end is odd, even after a buyout offer. $CLWR is showing more normalized behavior. -
losbronces: I would say that narrow range is a bit odd. I would expect more movement given that a $0.25 range is in play.
